Present Day.
The sound of heels hitting on polished marble was heard throughout the clean, modern office. Elena Stone walked out the elevator, capturing the interest of everyone surrounding her.
She was dressed in a fitting black suit, her long, twisted dark hair pulled back. The smart look in her expression and the charm in her walking pace indicated that she was a woman who knew exactly what she wanted and how to get there.
“Elena,” Max, her personal assistant, acknowledged her as he rushed to match her fast steps. Max was a young and driven individual, characterized by his keen intellect and strong loyalty to Elena.
“The board is waiting for you in the conference room. They're eager to hear about your next move.”
Elena gave a small nod, her lips curving into a slight smile. “Good. Let’s not keep them waiting.”
Max handed her a tablet as they walked, the screen displaying the latest figures from their recent acquisitions. “Our takeover of Wesson Industries went smoothly. Their stock is already rising under our control.”
“Excellent,” Elena replied, her voice calm and measured. “And what about Blackwood Enterprises?”
Max hesitated for a moment, sensing the tension in her question. “We’ve acquired several of their smaller subsidiaries, but Damon Blackwood has been fighting back. He’s not making it easy.”
Elena’s smile widened, but there was no warmth in it. “He won’t. But he doesn’t know who he is up against at this point”.
As they made their way to the conference room, Elena took a brief pause, her eyes focused on the outline of the city observable through the windows that extended from floor to ceiling.
The sight was stunning—towering skyscrapers stretching up into the sky, with the city alive and vibrant beneath. It was a significant opposite to the shy artist she once was, the woman who had been devastated by Damon’s harsh rejection.
Now, she was Elena Stone, a force to be reckoned with.“Is everything alright, Elena?” Max asked, concerned in his voice.
Elena turned to him, her expression unreadable. “Everything is perfect, Max. Let’s go.”
With that, She swung the doors of the conference room wide open, where the members of her company's board, Stone Enterprises, were expecting her arrival.
Damon’s Office.
Damon Blackwood His forehead furrowed with displeasure as he looked at the reports on his desk. The previous few months had been an inflow of unexpected obstacles.
His company, once untouchable, had been gradually falling behind to an upstart competitor—Stone Enterprises.
They had come out of nowhere, systematically focusing on his assets and surpassing him in offers for transactions, and losing important clients.
But what frustrated Damon the most was the woman behind it all—Elena Stone. She was a mystery emerging unexpectedly with enough power and influence to go head-to-head with his empire.
It appeared that nobody had much information about her, except that she was brilliant, ruthless, and resolute in achieving victory regardless of the consequences.
“Damon, you should check this out,” Lucas said as he entered the office, holding a tablet in his hand. Damon’s trusted advisor and planner, Lucas had been by his side for years, leading him through numerous challenges in the business world. But this one felt different.
Damon looked up, his expression dark. “What is it now?”
Lucas handed him the tablet, his face serious. “Stone Enterprises just acquired another one of our subsidiaries—Anderson Logistics. They acted quickly, and there was nothing we could do to stop it.”
Damon’s eyes tilted as he reviewed the details. “How the hell did they manage that? Anderson Logistics was one of our most secure assets.”
“Elena Stone knows what she’s doing,” Lucas replied, his tone grim. “She’s not just trying to compete with you, Damon. She’s trying to dismantle your entire empire.”
Damon clenches his teeth, his irritation reaching a peak. “Who is she? Where did she come from?”
“I've been looking into her history,” Lucas said, lowering his voice. “However, there isn't much to discover. It’s like she appeared from nothing a few years ago, already on the rise. She’s kept a low profile, but Her standing in the business sector is on the rise fast.”
Damon relaxed back in his chair, his thoughts racing. There was a factor in Elena that he just could not overlook—a perception he knew her or should have known her.
In spite of how intently he tried, he couldn't recognize her. She was a phantasm, an unsolvable problem, and it was driving him nuts.
"I want to see her," Damon declared unexpectedly, with a strong tone.
Lucas raised an eyebrow. “You sure that’s a good idea? She’s not exactly friendly competition.”
Damon smiled with a cunning smile.
“Exactly. I want to know who I’m dealing with. Set up a meeting.”
Lucas nodded, despite a trace of worry visible in his eyes. “I’ll handle the arrangements. But be careful, Damon. There’s something about this woman… I don’t trust her.”
Damon didn’t respond, his thoughts already elsewhere. Whoever Elena Stone was, she had made one thing clear—she was a threat. And Damon was determined to find out why.
The Meeting.
The private apartment at the Waldorf Grand Hotel was expensive and cozy, with soft fabrics, marble flooring, and an outstanding view of the city.
Elena stood by the window, with her gaze glued on the skyline. The city had become her playground, a significant contrast to the time when she was unknown—a struggling artist named Sophia Williams.
But Sophia was gone. She had long since buried that aspect of herself, alongside the suffering and shame that had almost ruined her. From the remnants, a new woman had risen—a powerful, confident, and calculating woman who would stop at nothing to get what she wanted.
The door to the suite opened, and Max entered, his expression as serious as ever. “Damon Blackwood just arrived. He is expecting you in the conference room downstairs.”
Elena turned to face him, her eyes shining with a mixture of anticipation and satisfaction. “Good. It’s time we finally met.”
Max hesitated, his loyalty evident in the concern etched on his face. “Are you sure about this, Elena? He doesn’t know who you really are.”
A cold smile played on Elena’s lips. “Exactly. And that’s what makes this so perfect. He has no idea what lies ahead.”
She took her elegant black handbag and proceeded to the door. As she walked down the corridor, her heart pounded with both joy and worry.
She had spent years polishing her talents, gaining all of the essential knowledge to take down Damon Blackwood. And now, the time had finally come.
The elevator ride to the conference room was concise, but each second felt like it lasted forever. As the doors opened, Elena exited, the sound of her heels tapping against the marble floor as she approached the door to the room where Damon was waiting for her.
Max gave her a comforting nod before taking a step back, leaving her to face Damon alone. Elena took a deep breath and pushed open the door. She stepped inside.
The room was large and glamorous, with a long table setup for a business meeting.
But the only person present was Damon, who was located at the opposite end of the table, with his back turned to her, he gazed out the window.
The tension in the room was noticeable, heavy with the burden of their unexpressed past.
Damon turned slowly as Elena entered, his expression one of curiosity and calculation. But the moment their eyes met, a glint appeared in his eyes—something familiar, yet distant.
For a brief moment, the appearance of self-assurance Damon always slipped on, revealing a spark of uncertainty, even being vulnerable.
Elena’s heart stopped for a moment, but she remained calm, her lips forming a gradual smile, The same smile that Damon had once known so well.
Damon’s eyes widened a bit as he observed her smile, a flash of familiarity lighting up in his thoughts.
But before he could speak, Elena approached the table with confidence and extended her hand.
“Elena Stone,” she said with ease, she spoke with a steady and composed voice “I’m delighted to finally meet you, Mr. Blackwood.”
Damon paused for a brief moment before shaking her hand, his hold was steady yet careful. “The pleasure is mine, Ms. Stone. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Elena’s smile never wavered. “I’m sure you have.”
But deep down within, her mind was racing. This was the moment she had expected—the moment when she would ultimately face the man who had broken her life apart.
And as she looked into his eyes, she knew that this was only the beginning.
