The Day After the Meeting.
Damon was at his desk, gazing out at the skyline of the city from the window. He was more anxious than he wanted to admit after the previous day's conversation with Elena Stone.
The familiar sensation she evoked lingered in the back of his head, haunting him.
He had spent all night trying to figure out her true identity, but the answer remained difficult.
Lucas walked into the office, his typical air of confidence showing some signs of tension. “Morning, Damon. I’ve got the latest reports on the Hanover deal. Everything seems to be on track.”
Damon nodded absentmindedly, his mind still preoccupied with the memory of Elena's smile. “Good. I hope this deal proceeds smoothly without any issues. Hanover is key to our expansion plans.”
Lucas paused, feeling that Damon was lost in thought. “You're thinking about her, right? Elena Stone?”
Damon’s eyes snapped to Lucas, his expression guarded."She is an intriguing woman. There's something about her that I can't quite place.”
Lucas set the reports on Damon’s desk and leaned forward slightly. “You think she’s hiding something?”
Damon let out a sigh as He leaned back in his chair. “I know she is. She’s too calculated, too polished. And there’s something about her that feels… familiar.”
Lucas frowned, considering this. “You’ve dealt with a lot of people in our area of expertise. Maybe she just reminds you of someone?”
Damon shook his head. “No, it's beyond that. Her gaze and the way she spoke made it seem as if she was already familiar with me, like she was playing a game.”
Lucas lifted an eyebrow. “A game?”
“Yes,” Damon said, his voice firm. “And I intend to find out what her endgame is.”
Lucas studied him for a moment before nodding. “I’ll dig deeper into her background. See if there’s anything we missed.”
“Do that,” Damon replied, his tone clipped. “And Lucas—be discreet. I don’t want her knowing we’re onto her.”
Lucas gave a curt nod and left the office, leaving Damon alone with his thoughts. As he picked up the Hanover report, Damon couldn’t shake the feeling that Elena Stone was a puzzle he needed to solve—and that time was running out.
Lunch Meeting.
Elena sat in a secluded corner of a renowned eatery—the kind where deals were made in private. With music and attentive staff, the atmosphere was calm
She looked stunning in a fitting dark green dress with her hair tied up in a fine ponytail.
Alongside from her sat David Hanover, the CEO of Hanover Industries.
“This partnership is a significant move for us,” David said, his tone polite but cautious. “But I have to admit, I’m curious why Stone Enterprises is interested in a deal that seems to align more with Blackwood Enterprises.”
Elena smiled, a calculated expression that revealed nothing. “We see potential in Hanover Industries, David. Your company possesses the knowledge and creativity that we need. As for Blackwood Enterprises, let’s just say that Damon Blackwood and I have different visions for the future.”
David chuckled, but his eyes were sharp. “I’ve heard the rumors, Elena. You and Damon seem to be circling each other like predators. Should I be worried?”
“Not at all,” Elena replied smoothly. “This is strictly business. But I’ll be honest—I’m determined to win.”
David nodded, clearly impressed by her confidence. “I admire your ambition. But you should know that Damon Blackwood has been working on this deal for years. If you move forward, it could mean stepping on some powerful toes.”
Elena leaned forward slightly, her gaze intense. “I have no fear of Damon Blackwood. "My preparation for this day has been long coming, and I know exactly what I'm doing."
David observed her for a short while, then smiled. “In that case, I’m looking forward to seeing what you can contribute. Let’s make this deal happen.”
Elena’s smile widened. “Consider it done.”
As they shook hands, sealing the deal, Elena’s mind was already racing ahead. This was the first real blow against Damon, and it was only the beginning. She had spent years planning her revenge, and now that everything was organized, She was determined to ensure that Damon experienced all the suffering he had caused her.
—---
The next day, Damon was in his office going over the last details of the Hanover deal when Lucas barged in, his typically composed nature replaced through an unusual expression of fear.
“Damon, We have a serious issue at hand,” Lucas said, shoving a document into Damon’s hands.
Damon glanced through the document quickly, his expression becoming somber with each line he read. “What on earth is this?”
“It’s the Hanover deal,” Lucas explained, his voice tight. “Elena Stone swooped in and secured the partnership with Hanover Industries right out from under us. It’s a done deal—signed and sealed.”
Damon felt a cold fury rising within him. Years of planning went into the Hanover growth, which was a crucial component of his expansion plan. Losing it was a disaster rather than just a setback. And Elena Stone had orchestrated the entire thing.
“She’s been playing us this whole time,” Damon muttered, more to himself than to Lucas. “She knew exactly where to hit us.”
Lucas nodded grimly. “She’s good, Damon. Too good. And she’s targeting us specifically. This goes beyond business—it's a personal matter.”
Damon’s mind raced, the elements are finally coming together. Elena's enigmatic presence, her deliberate actions, the way she appeared to instinctively know how to irritate him. There was only one explanation.
“Sophia,” Damon whispered, the name slipping from his lips like a ghost from the past.
Lucas looked at him, puzzled. “What?”
Damon stood up abruptly, his eyes blazing with a mixture of anger and realization. “Elena Stone isn’t just some upstart. She’s connected to Sophia Williams. She has to be.”
Lucas's eyes grew large as he absorbed what Damon was saying. "Are you suggesting she’s…?”
“I’m unsure of my thoughts," Damon said, his tone low and dangerous. "But I’m going to find out.”
He took hold of his coat and moved towards the door, His focus was singular—he was determined to confront Elena and uncover the truth.
When Damon arrived at Stone Enterprises, he skipped the formalities. He marched aggressively into the lobby, ignoring the staff's shocked gazes and went straight to Elena's office.
Elena was seated at her desk when he came into the room, looking cool and collected as if she predicted his arrival.
“Damon,” she stated calmly, standing up to greet him. “What brings you here today?”
Damon’s eyes burned with anger as he approached her. “Cut the crap, Elena. I realize what you're doing, and I will not let you get away with it.”
Elena lifted her brow, appearing to be clueless. "I don't have a sense of what you are ranting about."
Damon smacked the desk violently with his hand while getting in close. “Who the hell are you? What do you want from me?”
For a minute, they stared at one another; the atmosphere around them was filled with tension. Then, Elena's lips formed a gradual, menacing smile.
“You should be careful who you underestimate, Damon,”She spoke in a low voice, tinged with threat.
Damon’s gaze tightened, his mind racing as he attempted to understand her words. But before he could respond, Elena picked up her coat and walked past him, stopping briefly to provide one last, haunting statement.
“You never can tell when the past might return to trouble you.”
With that, she left the office, leaving Damon behind, stunned by the recognition that he had been outsmarted—and that he was now entangled in a game he didn’t fully understand.
