[Remi’s POV] A shiver rushes through me while the urge to kick the bastard in front of me in the balls starts to grow. Belong to him. Who the f**k did this guy think he was? Did he really think that I was some stupid bimbo that would fall for his boy-next-door looks? If he did, he was sadly mistaken. “Listen,” I sigh, my annoyance getting the best of me. “I think there’s something that you don’t quite get here. I’m not a thing to be possessed, and I would never fall for a bastard like you.” At my words, Kevin’s eyes grow wide as he stares at me in disbelief. It’s almost laughable just how shocked the guy looks. Damn, was he really that f*****g full of himself? “You don’t need to fall for me.” He says, getting his wits about him. “That doesn’t matter.” “What?” I hiss. “Don’t you know what it is that our parents are discussing right now?” He pushes, taking a few steps toward me while I move backward. “Don’t tell me that you’re that naive to believe that people like us can choose who we end up with.” People like us. I hated statements like that. Who was he to lump me in with those snobbish socialites who looked down their nose at people beneath them just because they weren’t born into wealth? I wasn’t like him, nor was I like my parents, who were given everything they have thanks to my grandfather busting his ass to build an empire. “People like you.” I correct him now, narrowing my gaze. “Are f*****g idiots. Going along with what they’re told to do. Sorry, but whatever you think is happening here isn’t, and it would be best for you to just forget about it.” Finished speaking, I turn and prepare to head back inside, but before I can, Kevin’s hand is wrapping around my wrist, and I find myself in a hospital room. In the middle of the room is a single bed with a fat and bald man who looks to be on his last leg. He only seems to be in his fifties, maybe sixties, and there isn’t a single f*****g person around him as he fights to take his last breath. Fitting. I think to myself, yanking my wrist free of Kevin’s hold and then whirling around. “Don’t touch me again.” I warn him, clenching and unclenching my fists. “I’ve been kind up until this point, but I’ll be damned if I’ll put up with your blatant disrespect.” “Oh?” He laughs, his eyes taking on a dangerous gleam. “And you’re going to stop me? Don’t make me laugh.” As he speaks, he begins to move toward me once more, and I can almost feel his intentions dripping from him, but I’m not about to back down. I would be damned if I let this asshole intimidate me or make me out to be some weak b***h. However, before I can attack, the sound of footsteps reaches us, and when I peek over my shoulder, I feel my mood darken even more as I spot Kane heading our way with a look of amusement on his face. “Whoops,” he chuckles, stopping in his tracks and taking me and Kevin in. “Did I interrupt something?” “Actually…” “There you are!” I gasp, cutting Kevin off as I come up with a way to escape the whole situation before it takes a turn. Even if I wanted to beat the s**t out of the cocky bastard in front of me, I knew that it would ultimately end up causing trouble for my parents, and I didn’t want to deal with any more headaches. “I was beginning to wonder when you would come.” Not thinking twice, I move, rushing toward Kane and wrapping my arms around his while Kevin watches us. “I thought you forgot about me.” I continue as Kane’s dark eyes come to rest on me. “Do you know how hurt I was feeling?” Keeping my gaze fixed with his, I silently beg him to go along with me, although I know there is a huge chance that he won’t thanks to our beef. But if he wasn’t willing, then I would just be persistent. I couldn’t give up on this, not when Kevin revealed what my parents were plotting behind my back. “Who is he?” Kevin demands when Kane remains silent. “He’s my…” “I’m her lover,” Kane announces, causing my eyes to widen with how easily he can say such a thing. “Is that a problem?” Remaining silent, I feel a wave of disbelief rush through me over him going along with me, although I was certain that he would require payment later on. I was definitely giving him something to hold over me, but right now, I was willing to take it. “It is,” Kevin snaps, bringing me back to the present. “Since she is supposed to be getting engaged to me.” “Engaged,” Kane repeats, shooting me a look that almost screams naughty girl. “Were you f*****g me while knowing that you were getting engaged?” “O-of course not.” I stammer, just wanting to end this whole f*****g exchange. “How could I possibly? Especially when you’re so good.” I continue, deciding to play him at his own damn game. “What woman would want anyone else after that?” Smirking, Kane pulls his arm loose from my hold and then presses his hand against the small of my back, pulling me against his large and firm body. “That’s right,” he agrees, turning his gaze to Kevin, who watches us. “You heard her, didn’t you? She isn’t interested in you, so I think it would be best to get that ridiculous idea of marrying her out of your head.” “Or what?” Kevin growls, unwilling to back down. “What the hell do you plan on doing, pretty boy?” “Well,” Kane says slowly, a dangerous aura beginning to trickle around him. “I don’t think you want to know what I will do.” Shivering, I try to ignore the way the air around us grows colder just from how icy his voice sounds. How could one person be so damn intimidating while being so damn alluring? Was this how real men looked, or was he the exception? Despite myself, I look up, fixing my gaze on Kane’s handsome face, taking in the sharp angle of his chin as it juts out arrogantly and his lush lips that are twitched into a cocky smile. “Do you know who my father is?” Kevin demands, taking a few steps toward us. “Do you really think that you stand a chance against me or my family?” “Who knows?” Kane shrugs. “I guess I’ll just have to see.”
