El has each plate prepared and arranged neatly on the cart, each one covered with a gleaming silver cloche. She wipes her hands on her apron, steadies her breath, and pushes the cart toward the dining room. When she enters, the room quiets. Ryker sits at the head of the table, Kai on his right, Lira on his left. All three look up — but Ryker’s reaction is immediate and sharp. He stiffens. His jaw tightens. His shoulders lock. His eyes track her like she’s a threat… or something he can’t look away from. El keeps her gaze down, remembering her obedience lesson.
