Another portal opens behind Elena, and a dart shoots out, striking her in the neck. Ryker growls, but the portal snaps shut before he can reach it. Elena drops to her knees, and Ryker forces himself to stay vigilant, scanning for attacks from every direction.
Jax is the closest and sprints toward them, with Lira and Kai right behind him.
A second portal tears open to Ryker’s right, and twenty wolves surge through.
“Ryker…” Elena whispers, barely audible, still on her hands and knees.
