“Don’t touch me. You cannot break my mate bond,” I shout at the witch.
She smiles like she already won. “I have already broken it, my dear. It is done.” Her laugh fills the room, sharp and cruel.
I scream.
“Elena, wake up. Wake up.” Ryker’s voice pulls me back, and suddenly I am in our bed, shaking and covered in cold sweat.
“You are safe,” he says softly. “It was another nightmare. You are here with me.” He pulls me into his arms.
“I am sorry for waking you again.” I press closer to him.
“Do not apologize. You wouldn’t have these nightmares if I had done my job as your mate and protected you.”
“Ryker, it was not your fault. We have talked about this so many times.” I sit up and look at him.
