Kai shifts her weight carefully in his arms as he climbs out of the ravine, muscles straining but steady. The moment his boots hit solid ground, he reaches out with his mind.
Alpha, he sends through the pack link, there was a female wolf found at the bottom of the ravine. She’s badly injured.
A pause.
Then his Alpha’s voice, sharp and suspicious.
Bring her to the prison.
Kai’s jaw tightens.
Alpha… I’m bringing her to the hospital. She won’t survive otherwise.
A low growl echoes through the link.
You are too soft, Kai. She’s probably a spy.
Kai looks down at the unconscious woman in his arms — pale, trembling, barely breathing.
She’s not a spy, he replies firmly. She’s dying.
Another growl.
Then a frustrated sigh.
Fine. I’ll meet you there in ten minutes. And bring handcuffs.
