Shoiuk (village) Endreta (priest) Mus (village chief)Furut Geray Surta Guo (small gods) Tua (chief’s guard) yeo (laws of thevillage) Elder Tughrut Reun Ukui (Daada) Anu (brother) CHIEF’S DEATH “Attack!!!!” the intruders roared as they attacked us, I rushed to the last location I saw my parents in. “Lanu run!” Anu appeared out of nowhere and pulled me towards the direction of the forest. “No! Am not leaving maama and daada behind.”I tried to pull my hands out of his hold but he dragged me more aggressively towards the forest. “Justgo I will protect our parents with my life.” Anu left me at a safe place near the forest, after his figure disappeared I turned and headedto the depth of the forest as my tears fell more rapidly. “They can’t die, theycan’t die, can’t die.” I continued running as I repeated these words to myself. After running for a while and getting exhausted, I sat on a tree branchand gasped for breath. I recalled the scenes of the villagers celebrating and then beingattacked byteintruders the next second,my tears continued to flow more rapidly. The fear of never seeing then again sent shivers in my body. “Anu promised, they willbe back no matter what. Yes, yes, yes, they are safe.” I didn’t know how long, I stayed their crying as I listened to the screams and cries of the people. The louder their screams the more my heart broke. I cried until my eyes become swollen, I couldn’t see anymore. My feet and hands hurt, my lungs felt like they were boiling but that pain could not replace the agony I was feeling. After a while I heard footsteps from the back, I panicked unsure of those people maybe. I leaned more into the tree near me, held my breath and observed the people approaching. “Mama” after seeing her I felt like all my fears had faded, I rushed into her hands feeling the warm I thought I will never see again. “Lanu are you fine” my mother inspected me as tears uncontrollably slide down her face. My mother has always been a brave woman, I had never seen her tears before, and this conveyed her fear of losing her children.
