Days passed and the village went back to normal, the mess left by the battle was cleaned up by the
warriors. My life also went back to its daily routine, even though Dada was gone we still had my brother Anu. I could see him trying to shelter all of father’s responbilities. Mama stopped sleeping in her and
Dada’s bed room and moved into mine, though she never mentioned the reason, I knew in my heart that she just couldn’t accept his absence. Two weeks went by like that and everyone seemed to have
moved on from that gloomy event. The crowning of the next Mus was already being arranged by the
elder’s and many people were eager for it.
I have been taking food to Anu alone these day because Mama’s been too weak these days. “Anu,
Mama said I should leave with the bowls after your done with your meal.” Anu frowned, seeming
reluctant to leave his farm work for food. “She knows you have been leaving the food and overworking yourself.” I looked at him as I told him about Mama’s worries.
“Did you tell her?” I knowhe suspects me because am the one who has been bringing him food these days.“No, she notice that you have become thinner.” I told him as I unpacked his food and arranged it for him to eat. Anu is someone who doesn’t want to make others worried about him especially Mama. I sat
down as I waited for him to finish his meal. Though Dada was no more I could see that the farm work
was being handled at a steady pace. Anu is really as strong as Dada. It took him only five minutes to
finish the food, I knew he was in a hurry to go back to work, so I left after collecting the utensils so that I don’t delay him. As I was heading home I passed by the place where the ceremony for the crowning of
the new Mus was going to be held, the preparations were mostly finished by now.
“Our father’s bride, right?” I turned following the sound of the voice and found myself face to face with two identical men. Wait, aren’t these two the Mus’s sons. How do they know me, you can’t blame me
for being surprised most people in the village had even forgotten that I was promised to the late Mus.“Or should I say our bride, what do you think of her brother.” The Late Mus had two sons who arevery
identical but had differing personalities. Larkin and Zarkin were seen as fire and ice because everyone in the village new how opposite they were.
According to my knowledge of the two from the rumors I have had, the one talking should be Zarkin. That sly smile on his face is his signature look when he knows
something is at his mercy and the one standing like a statue should be Larkin. Most girls my age are into Zarkin, well that’s expected since his the playful type. I had that on the last year’s hunting event, he
stole the heart of Suyuzi, the beauty of the Furas clan and now he is hated by the Furas men.
“I was never the Mus’s bride.”After bowing in respect,I told them my mind politely, restraining the
anger I got from hearing him claim me as their bride.Zarkin laughed at my reply like I was a human
refusing the favorof Guo. The sound of his laughter annoyed so much that I wished his mouth would fall off. I don’t know where he gets his arrogance from, he is not the Mus yet. Though both the Mus’s sons
are outstanding only one can be the Mus. At this moment I wished Larkin would get the position.“Our Bride, that’s what you are because I said so. Tell your relatives the good news we shall come by
soon.”This arrogant i***t, thinks that marrying him is good news and why does he keep saying our bride it’s not like I can marry two people at once. Whatever let’s just pretend that I never encountered any of them.
