CLARA’s POV
I told Ethan the night after the filing.
Not everything, he was four, and four-year-olds do not need corporate trust documents explained to them, and there is a difference between telling a child the truth and telling a child everything, which is a difference I had thought about carefully for days before the moment arrived.
What I told him: that there were some people who knew about our family now, who hadn't known before. That we had told them on purpose, which meant we were in charge of it. That he was safe, and that Marcus was coming more often for a while, and that this was because we were being careful, not because anything was wrong.
He listened with the full-body attention he gave to things he was working out. When I finished, he was quiet for a moment.
