“Where exactly are we going? I can still remember vividly, This isn’t the route to the healer’s wing!” I screamed with all my energy, yanking at the seatbelt to be free.
The vehicle suddenly jerked forward, but that was over a pothole. Vick’s knuckles had another purpose; they stayed steady, not wavering on the wheel. I stared out through the car window. The forest we were approaching was becoming denser, and the road was totally unfamiliar, with no sign of a pack patrol. My stomach churned noisily, somehow twisting tighter than the seatbelt I was using.
Vick didn’t at least flinch as I ranted at the passenger's seat.
His cold, unmistakable, annoying smirk was enough to tell me things would never be the same again.
“I demand to know the destination you are taking me to immediately!” I snapped again, my heart racing uncontrollably and skipping beats.
A practised calmness followed; it was too perfect to be a coincidence.
“You annoyingly ask way too many questions, disturbing my peace for someone who’s no more on this side but already dead,” Selene finally said, dropping the bombshell.
I gasped clearly understanding what they meant. My head was spinning like the world was rotating around me. “You what?”
She couldn't even allow me to finish my statement. The next thing, her hands were on my neck, like she planned to strangle me. It was cold and so precise that I didn't notice when she brought out a tiny syringe and pressed it on my bare neck.
Pain erupted immediately from the point she forced the syringe. It was very hot and very sharp, as was the pain. I tried my best to jerk away, to stay awake after the drug started its work, but my efforts proved abortive. The drug was too fast to act, and with the speed of light, it spread through my veins.
“Don’t even stress yourself to fight it. Just consider this as one of your forced maternity leaves since you won't agree to take one,” she whispered, grinning ear to ear, and just like that, the activities in the world faded away without a trace.
Unfortunately, her manipulative voice was the last thing I heard. It was more like a lullaby, but this wasn't the type for children, as it was soaked in venom.
When I finally returned to the world I left behind, I noticed myself bound, brutally groggy, and still freezing. My wrists were in severe pain, from the damp smell I was getting from where they locked me inside.
I tried to figure out my environment, to see if I had been there before. Pain forced me to pulse, as my head turned nonstop. My throat was already dry; it was more like someone swallowing gravel. My body ached badly from hours of stressful driving, and even the environment that kept me in. I was totally bruised, especially in the area of my hips.
The wind howled greatly, and I could sense that it wasn't just wind; something else was involved.
“You’re finally awake,” Selene said, a hint of something mysterious in her voice.
That same voice again, that very one she used before they drove out of the penthouse, it was too rehearsed.
I turned to see what was happening around me. I saw her standing nonchalantly at the edge of the cliff. It was more like she had bought the sky for herself.
I was shocked beyond control to realise she was wearing white. Why wear white of all colors like she were the innocent one in our midst?
“You’re totally insane,” I hissed at her, totally disturbed by her behavior. “Ryker will not let you go free; he will kill you.”
My voice trembled as I spoke to her, but it wasn't due to fear; it was because I was furious. And suddenly, I became nauseous. I could already feel myself falling off the cliff's edge as they planned for me.
She laughed heartily, but shockingly, it didn't reach her eye;, it was all pretence. “Darling, I promise you, Ryker won’t even know where to start looking for you. By the time he eventually starts, it will be to get your body for funerals. That's if they could trace you, as we will leave no trail, no heir to inherit the throne."
She said those harsh words to me very casually, like it was a normal thing to do, that it would be so easy to do.
“You think he would turn and want you for himself by doing all this? No, he will never forgive you." I spat angrily.
“News flash! I don’t even need him to rescue me by wanting me,” she confidently stated. “I only need the council's backing, and I'm okay. And let it be known to you, if you are finally gone, Ryker will have no hold on the council, which means he would lose the throne, so goodbye."
“Don't you think you’re too pathetic?” I snarled, still holding the balance. “You’re so useless that even a pregnant woman threatens!"
“Well, not just any type of pregnant woman, it is by a hypocritical hybrid heiress who manipulated her way and stole my mate, my position, and right now, my future is on the line." She snapped suddenly.
I could feel venom oozing from her words; she couldn't even hide to achieve her mission first.
“The position of a Luna was never your future!” I barked back at her.
“Let me go, I am not the problem here,” I growled. “This doesn’t make sense, fighting me when there are other ways to settle this."
Selene glanced at Vick with desperation in her eyes, and he nodded. “Push her immediately.”
My blood froze, my heart rate accelerated.
“Vick, please, don't do this,” I pleaded. “I have always noticed how loyal you are to Ryker. Don’t let Selene get to you, please."
“He’s no longer the Alpha,” Vick said coldly, a type I have never witnessed before. “And you have to go for that to happen."
“I’m pregnant for crying out loud!” I screamed out my lungs.
"That's another reason you are not needed here; your presence is not accepted," Selene said. Don't worry; Ryker will mourn you very well, " she added, and that was it.
Vick grabbed me carelessly without considering my pregnancy and pushed me off the cliff. The last thing I heard was Selene telling me goodbye, and everything turned black.
