Selene’s POV
“You’re strangely quiet today all of a sudden,” Vick said as he annoyingly tried to slide into my thoughts as a smooth talker. His attitude is so annoying, and he always wears it like a cologne. I was just putting up with him because of what I aimed to achieve through him.
I twirled the glass of wine I was holding absentmindedly, and I replied without sparing him a glance. “Just thinking about many things.”
“That’s very dangerous, as much as I can remember,” he smirked knowingly.
“Only if it has to do with Ryker.”
That name alone was able to get his attention. Ever since Ryker took his position as the elder brother, by rushing into marriage with me to fulfill their dying father's command, and deceptively gotten the throne, Vick had been doing everything possible to get it back by all means.
He leaned forward in curiosity. “Talk to me directly.”
I smiled; that was the reaction I was expecting from him, and I would have been surprised if he had not done otherwise. “She’s discovered to be human.”
He blinked in confusion. “What do you mean?”
“Lucy, Ryker’s most cherished little wife. She’s not exactly what he presented her to be to us.”
Vick furrowed his brows. “I can remember him saying she’s on a contract as a surrogate, which means he checked everything before accepting her.”
“He was always like that. Even during my time, he said a whole lot of things when he was making arrangements to trap me in marriage, too,” I explained flatly.
Vick chuckled, dramatically holding his chest.“I'm really touched.”
“I took the liberty of tracing each of her files,” I continued. “It was really buried deep, but I got it with my expertise in things like this. Ranging from birth records to accumulated hospital history. She’s undoubtedly a human. At least, that's enough reason to outrightly disqualify her from even being a Nanny to the heir, talk more of carrying the Alpha heir.”
“But right now, she’s already the womb donor to the heir.”
I sipped my wine, trying so hard not to choke on it. “But this can only mean one thing. If this information, in any way, gets to the council, she and whatever she's carrying in her womb would be considered an abomination to this pack.”
Vick sat back straight, nodding his head, clearly impressed. “I’m not shocked that you delivered; you never disappoint.”
“Oh, about that, I know already.”
He remained in that position, studying me with a smirk on the corner of his lip. A lot must really be going on in his mind with that type of stare from him to me. He must be plotting another evil scheme to get Ryker, though they always come out as dumb as his name.
“Are you really loaded and determined to take her down at all cost so badly?” he asked.
I turned to face the direction of the fire for warmth. “I won't sit back and watch her take my shine, I want my title back. I would do anything to get my place back. And I won't do that without putting Ryker in a position where he would have to beg me before I finally destroy him. I don't aim at taking it easy on him for disgracing me and using me as a means to an end.”
“You seem to have married me for the sole purpose of revenge.”
I finally turned to face him, my eyes coated with all sugar and poison. “And you didn't waste time marrying me because you knew I was a thorn in his flesh and the best revenge partner to get what rightfully belonged to you."
We remained in that position, staring at each other for a few seconds.
Then, we both let out hilarious laughter. We knew we were using each other and were happy doing it.
It was a war that he called for and that he would get.

Later that same night, we took the next step by meeting with Ryker’s eldest brother, codedly located in the underground. It was our secret war room, and right there, old loyalties were extensively traded for new power plays.
“She’s discovered a human,” I said, carelessly tossing her personal file on the table.
He picked it with keen interest and carefully scanned every detail. As the game MN master, he didn’t even bother hiding the smirk plastered on the corner of his mouth.
He announced, “This is more than enough evidence to call for a public tribunal with immediate effect. "
“Good job,” Vick added. “Let’s attack immediately and expose her. Let the pack not be in the dark, but see who Ryker really risked the pack and bonded with.”
“And when this gets to the public, and he’s finally stripped of his title for irresponsibly tainting the royal bloodline,” I curred sweetly, “guess who would take the position of the next Alpha?”
Vick smiled sheepishly like a child offered candy while being deceived. “Me, of course.”
“And who would be by your side as the Luna?”
Of course, I did not need anyone to give me the answer; I already knew what awaited me.
As we both walked through the same route we entered, out of the war room, I secretly pulled out my plan B. It was a silver dagger carefully hidden to not get anyone's attention. I had hidden it in my boot and given it a sweet name—my little insurance policy.
“Enjoy these few days; you must stay at the Alpha quarters in pretense. You have only a few more days to go, Lucy Castellano,” I whispered to no one but myself. I have been planning this for so long, and this will come out very clean.
“I won't spare you for stealing what's rightfully mine. It would be a disgrace on my part if I let you walk carefreely out of this marked deception as a Luna. No, I would ensure you take your leave in ashes for time wastage.”
