Chapter 28: The Will

1042 Words
Lucy’s POV I stood like a homeless orphan in the middle of nowhere, right in the dark woods. My whole body shivered scarily, but it wasn't due to cold; this time, it was from frustration. I was already wearing it like clothes. "Is this what I left the pack for?!" I yelled in anger, almost rolling on the ground. Instead of meeting a secret door to insert my key, all I see here are trees and silence. The same damn place I had secretly followed my uncle a couple of times just to detect what he did there. I thought coming here would mean I would have the answers to my questions and solutions to everything I had no answers to now. I mistakenly kicked a rock, and that increased my pain. "I stupidly left taking care of Eli for this?" My phone started vibrating almost immediately. I checked the screen to see Ryker. I wasn't in the mood to pick calls, especially from someone like him, so I Ignored it. My phone buzzed again, and for the second time, I still ignored it. “I need to take a deep breath; if not, I won't be able to stop myself from punching that arrogant, selfish alpha,” I muttered as I turned and stomped out of the thick forest. When I finally got home to Ryker’s personal penthouse, I didn’t see the reason to knock. I helped myself in by barging in like I was the sole owner of the property. It bothers me that I might be invading his space. “Ryker!” I shouted at the top of my voice. “Where the damn hell are you hiding yourself?!” There was only silence. “Well, that is still perfect.” I stormed inside, I didn't care if he needed his privacy at that moment. All I wanted to do was show up and scream my lungs out in front of him. But unfortunately, I met an empty room. But his wardrobe was half closed, showing someone might have collected clothes from there in a hurry. Was he rushing to a council meeting? Or he was worried sick I might have carried his babies to a hidden place. Well, that was weird because the Ryker I know always ensured everything was meticulous, including the details of his clothing. He never leaves without properly closing everything he used, even in a hurry. Something snapped alive in me, beckoning me to go closer and take a good look. I frowned but ended up moving closer anyway. “Why do I suddenly feel so drawn to this place without reason…?” As I approached the wardrobe, I saw a black trench coat lazily hanging, as if someone had left it there in a hurry. Behind it, there was something shiny, uncovered and blinking. It was a small wooden box. The funny thing is that it looked familiar as if I had seen it somewhere before. “Oh my Goodness, this can't be possibly happening,” I whispered in shock. “What is mom’s music box doing here?” I hadn’t set my eyes on it again ever since I clocked ten. I sat on the bed in the room, curious to find out what had brought it there. I opened it, but not forcefully, and a song suddenly started playing when it creaked open. It was a lullaby, my lullaby. But then, right inside, was another surprise: a well-folded but poorly written letter. It was my mother's handwriting. Then again, I looked deeper inside, and there lay a typed document. I picked it up with trembling fingers, eager to learn its contents. The Last Will and Testament of the Queen of Castellano, Isabella Castellano. Why Castellano? I opened it to read with shaky hands, and without going through the first paragraph, my vision was already blurred with tears. “To my lovely and cherished daughter, Luciana Isabella, Maverick Castellano, Heiress to the great Castellano Empire, and the sole bearer of the ancient Crescent Flame. You were not ordinary but born of two worlds, one accepted by society, the other not often spoken of, binding you by blood and fire. On your 25th birthday, a path leading to your destiny will open, unveiling everything that has hindered your way to success. You must learn to choose your path wisely, as different powers would beckon on you, inviting you to walk on dreaded paths, but your pure heart should guide your path..." I dropped the paper without finishing the content. “What the hell is going on here?” I was a heiress to a great empire named Castellano. And still not a full human, but a half-werewolf? She mentioned flames and veil; what could that even mean? And most importantly, why in God's name was this will hidden in no other place but in Ryker’s wardrobe? “Why am I just discovering when my life has turned upside down? What has my age and the 25th birthday got to do with inheriting all that belonged to me?" While trying to understand what was happening, the door behind me suddenly clicked open. I turned only to see Ryker standing by the door. He froze instantly upon seeing me, and then his eyes travelled and landed on the wall in my hand. He exhaled because he was already caught red-handed. “You finally found out.” I stood up slowly, like the movement when a movie was in slow motion. “So you knew everything all this while but chose to keep it away from me?” “I only suspected you could be the last generation.” “You later confirmed it and hid it from me?” “I didn’t know how to tell you after you signed the contract. I didn't even try opening the will, I left it there." “And you expect me to swallow your lies as the truth? Everything about me turned out to be a lie. My life, even down to how my body responds, all are lies." “I’m still the same Alpha you met a couple of months ago, Lucy.” “And who the hell do you think I am after all these?!”
