Chapter 26: The Test Results

1040 Words
“You want me to do what exactly?” I screamed at Kara like she had suddenly developed horns. “To run a supernatural DNA scan, nothing much. It's just to help us and rule out certain things as a confirmatory test,” she suggested, and what annoyed me the most was how casually she said it like there might be a possibility that I'm not fully human. “You must be joking, right?” Kara shrugged, less concerned. “We all witnessed when Eli partially shifted. There's a high probability that something uncommon in your blood activated such a reaction. We need this test to detect the exact thing we are battling with." I folded my arms as I stood speechless. “I said it before, and I'm repeating it again: I'm not a supernatural anything. I am a...” “You’re what exactly?” She asked, almost raising her voice. “A normal human that can't stay without seeing herself so drawn to the moon? Who, for no reason, starts feeling weird, especially in the presence of Ryker, a wolf? Who strangely hears her own unborn baby growl right inside her womb?” My jaw tightened. She had a point. I need to find out what's really happening to me. “Fine, go ahead and run the test. Just… just, ensure to keep away from Ryker. He mustn't know about this yet.” She gave me a small smile before nodding. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> A day later, Kara emerged from the hospital, holding an envelope. I knew I might not be ready to hear what was in it from how she held it. “Are those the confirmatory test results you talked about?” I asked, my heart already engaged in a marathon race. She nodded without looking at me. “Read it and see for yourself,” I whispered to her She reluctantly opened it and read to herself as if it were the first time she had seen it. “Well, what did it say?” Her eyes remained on the test, then suddenly met mine. “Lucy… you’re not completely human; you are a half-werewolf.” I blinked in confusion. “Excuse me, what exactly are you talking about?” “This states that you’re a hybrid. It didn't surface until now because it's dormant on your mother’s side. But for no reason, it awakened with Eli…, which also affected you." I sat down, still trying to process what I just heard. No, I didn't sit; it was way too kind for the type of situation I was in. I literally collapsed, even with my pregnancy. How was that even possible? How and when did it happen? “You mean this result rules out the fact that I'm of human origin, states why I was behaving in some certain way, yet tagging it to be pregnancy hormone?" “Your instincts were obviously reacting each time the moon surfaces. The pregnancy was just secondary in helping to heighten it. Your body, from all indications, was syncing with that of your unborn child. This proves that the bond, the new cravings, and constant mood swings are all supernatural related.” My head started spinning. “So… that very night that suddenly, I started feeling strange things, and that weird feeling started during the full moon…” “Not, you shouldn't call it a weird feeling,” she corrected. “That is known as wolven.” I groaned in confusion. “Great, this has also contributed to my many problems. I am not only stuck in a fake marriage with a ruthless and mannerless Alpha who has constantly abused me emotionally, always unavailable to cater for my physical needs but I am now confirmed to be a freak too?” “You were never a freak,” Kara stated gently. “You’re very powerful and unique. Eli’s condition, which we have been battling, makes sense now. We have been thinking it's sickness. It’s only a transition.” I rubbed my forehead as I began to feel a headache. “And Ryker wasn't informed of this new development yet?" “Not yet, I didn't let him know. I figured you would like to be the one to explain everything to him, including how you became one." I let out a bitter laugh. What exactly is she talking about? “Tell him, Ryker? Please, I don't want to give him a chance to go ahead and label this as even top of the list of the numerous things I ruined for him since we met." “You know he's not as terrible as you always describe him to be. He genuinely cares about you, your brother, and the unborn babies, right?” “Then why exactly did he choose to pull away at the most cherished moment after kissing me so passionately like his whole existence depended on it?” I snapped angrily at her. Kara made no attempt to answer; instead, a mischievous smile was plastered on one corner of her lips. Why would she be smirking in a situation like this? Or was it because I mentioned Ryker kissing me to her? I know intimacy was never part of the deal, but changes often occur when we least expect them. I exhaled and eyed her, she wasn't helping matters at all. “I can't tell apart my former self from this new me anymore, Kara.” “You haven't changed a bit, Lucy,” she said. “You still remain the mother of two growing powerful hybrids and an extraordinary woman who may have lived her life without knowing that she's extraordinary. For a good course, she finds out that she's not ordinary as she thought, but unique." I stared weirdly at the test results, hoping it would be a mistake. How possible is it that I'm half-werewolf? Does this not indicate that the greater part of my life has been a lie? Now, I am burdened with the need to find a solution to whatever is happening to me, to uncover the truth. Because, from how all of these are going, once Ryker finds out… everything would definitely change. But will it be for good or for the worse?
