I made my way to luke, in attempt to settle whatever that was between us. Which was harder that expected because, Aiden and Cade were boring stares into my back as I walked towards him and Luke—Well. Was pretending not to see me.
“Uhm”, I cleared my throats. He didn't look at me but merely kept talking to the receptionist guy who seemed very confused and was looking in between us. “I couldn't find—”
I cut his words. “You mean this?”
I flashed the book in my hand into his face and his brown eyes slowly shifted from the receptionist’s face to look at the book. When I got the look I was searching for. I couldn't resist an arched brow. Why on earth was he reading such a cliché novel? Turns out I didn't know him that well.
He blinked, just staring at me without saying anything. “Right. now, you can see me”
“The book”
His low voice commanded. “Give me”
“Uh. Uh”
I crossed my arms. “Giving me the whole cold shoulder something. Last I remembered I should be the angry one”
He didn't meet my gaze. “Just give me the book”
“And then what?”
“I can go back to pretending that you're invisible”
I gave him that look and few seconds later and he was groaning. “And I won't have to feel like a terrible person”
I pinned a glare at him. “But you are”
“Should I remind you what you said? You were literally mocking me for—”
“I'm sorry”
He cut me and placing his hands on my hair for a bit, I was lost and only returned back to reality after a jiffy. When I looked up at him. Though, he was apologizing, I could see that there were so many things on his mind.
I wondered if I should forgive him or not? I met his brown eyes again and I was caving in. “Uh”
I graoned. “Whatever. You're forgiven”
A little tilt came at the edges of his lips from my words and soon, he was leading us to take a sit at some empty side of the library. Once we sat down, I was giving him the curious gaze. “Hey!”
I blinked. “Why would you read this kind of story?”
I asked, looking the book in my hands back and forth, with a little crease on my forehead. Though, it didn't technically have a blurb, which was weird by the way. I could totally guess that the novel was one cliché scene after another. He met my gaze. “What's wrong with reading that?”
I gasped, almost too dramatically that it made him laugh. “You pretend to be this cool guy in the day but sneak in here to read this after school?”
“What are you thinking?”
He uttered after a while and poking me lightly on the forehead, then his eyes fell to the book in my hands. He denied it. “Right. I was mistaken. That wasn't what I was looking for”
I arched a brow. “Uh uh”
He was staring at me quickly and I only sought to provoke him today, so, I added a little fire to brimstone.
“Hello. I'm Luke and loooovvve reading—”
“Stop it”
His voice was low and husk causing me to giggle allover again. After that, I dropped the issue as in fact anyone could read whatever they wanted to. It was none of my business. Right?
“Hey”
I muttered after a while unconsciously flipping through the pages but not actually reading anything. He hummed and I looked up. “What should we do this coming weekend?”
He was quiet. “I mean, don't you wanna make up for your wrong deeds?”
He nodded slightly and then asked. “Where do you wanna go?”
I shrugged. “I have nothing in mind”
“You should come over to my place. Sophie is always asking of you”
My eyes widened. “Oh.. Really?”
“Yeah”
“You know how to leave a thing on people”
He commented harmlessly but I turned it against him with a wide grin spread on my lips. “Do I leave a thing on you?”
I wiggled my brows and he was swiftly pulling out the novel in my hands to knack it lightly on my forehead. I hissed, eyeing him though playfully before collecting my novel back. “Alright. Your place it is then”
His eyes fell on the weather outside after a while, he was muttering. “You should perhaps, be on your way by now”
I looked outside and then back to him then grinned. “You’re right”
My eyes bounced around the library for a bit noticing that people has cleared out of it over time and even Aiden and cade were no more in here. I fixed my eyes back at him. “I'll be on my way now”
He nodded, standing up with one hand stuck lazily into his pockets and his brown curls falling roughly into his eyes. “I'll walk you home”
He offered and I nodded, a little smile creeping over my lips as we headed out the library. We walked in silence for a while, and when I got to the front of my gate, the distance suddenly felt really short.
I turned around and waved at him. “Good night”
There was a small glint laying on his lips. “Good night, Kat”
He muttered and after one last wave, I turned around and walked my way into the house, of cause, I couldn't use the front door for obvious reasons so I climbed up my windows and soon, was enveloped by the same warm appearance of my room. I didn't waste any other second before throwing myself on the bed and hoping for better days like this ahead.
***
The next day came soon almost in a blur and I was brushing my teeth and preparing for school. After about twenty minutes I was walking down the stairs with my bag swung over my shoulders. I noticed that the house was more quiet than usual and I turned to the maid sweeping the floor at my right.
“Excuse me. Did you see my parents around?”
She halted on her mop, looking at me with a crease slowly forming on her brows. “They went out and took Betty along. Didn't they inform you?”
I blinked, lost in thoughts for a while before waving her off. Does that mean that I wall technically all alone right now? Where did they go to? A business proposal?
I knew that it was betty that always accompanied them in trips like that. I sighed, looking toward the kitchen and where mum would naturally be by now and then sighed again.
I should get to school.
I thought as I held my bagstrap tighter against myself and making my wag through the front door. I took my bicycle to school. Few minutes later, I was arriving in front of the school. I got down making my way somewhat absentmindedly and didn't realise when I was walking into the back of someone.
Huff*
I felt slapped into space for a while from the rigidness or should I say the ‘muscles’
“Oh my gawwd.. I'm so sorrrry”
I spurred out messaging my forehead a bit before finally looking to the person I just hit. It was a black American guy and I knew him. He was Ron, one of Luke’s friend. He looked me over before muttering. “Kathy?”
I grinned in a wave. “Hello”
He then nodded, glancing warmly at me. We exchanged some words before we both went our separate ways. I was five minutes early to class and I couldn't see Charlotte around, so I merely decided to wait at my desk until the teacher arrived.
I brought out my phone, plugging my pods and listening to music for a while. I zoned out, almost being lost in the melody when a familiar person came sitting next to me. Charlotte.
“Hey you!”
She grinned. “How was your night?”
I groaned, removing one pods and answering. “Terrible”
She then laughed, arching a brow at me. “Now, what's up?”
“You know it”
She smirked. “What? The three guys are too much drama for you to handle?”
I nodded a bit tiredly as I have been on my guard since the stupid bet started, it was exhausting and crap. I just wanted to have a peaceful day without bothering that this might be a conversation leading to ‘you know what?’
She nudged me. “You can always pay attention to better things”
I hummed. “Like what?”
She shrugged. “I don't know. Anything that doesn't make you…”
Her voice died down and she gestured for me to come closer. I did and she was diverting the topic. “Are you prepared for the sport week?”
I groaned again and she was laughing. “What?”
“Sports weeks were always the worst things for me”
I blinked. Oh heavens help me.
“Well—you can join the cheerleading team”
She muttered, and just then did I recall that she was the leader of the cheerleading team. I blinked. “Please dont”
She frowned. “You can't be that bad”
I chuckled bitterly. “I'm thaaaatt bad”
“Uh? Really?”
“Then what are you going to do for the up-coming sportweek”
She asked and I sighed, rubbing my templates dramatically. Somewhere behind my head I thought that some supernatural somebody was only out to get me cause a person couldn't be so unlucky.
“I don't know, okay?”
I gritted out forcefully and she was laughing. “Anyway. That's some days away so you still got time to think about it”
I cast her a thin bitter smile with she laughed to again. Soon the teacher appeared and the whole class where filled up the students ready to learn and we had students like myself, who felt like dozing off already. Oh crap.
