"What do you mean by contract?", Lily asked her heart beating furiously. Gina who was watching a soap opera on her MacBook paused it as she looked with concern towards her friend Lily on the phone.
"Didn't you read the fine print before you registered for this free arr training?", her coach answered
"Yes, I did....", Lily paused as she remembered that she had actually not read it. Gina had sent her the link and in her excitement she had ticked all the boxes and responded yes to all the questions. How was she supposed to know that she had unknowingly signed a contract?
She took a deep breath and said , "Well, now that I think about it, I didn't really read through everything that I signed"
"Well, hunnie that contract is a binding contract. You signed up for the free training, your artworks would be paid for and bought by the donors if they liked it in exchange for a three month service to them"
Lily nearly screamed but composed herself
"What do you mean service? What kind of service?", she asked.
By this time, Gina was already pacing around Lily restlessly while mouthing the words, "What's the problem?" with a line of worry furrowing her brows
"Well, usually the service requires the student painting a portrait for the donor but other times, some donors just have something else up their sleeves", the art coach said.
"Well, can I give the money back and step out of the contract?", Lily asked
"Baby no. You can't. You signed and agreed to the terms, you received the money and signed on a binding agreement before you sold your work. Be grateful. Most girls will give anything to be in your shoes. We are talking about rich men here..."
"I don't care about w...."
"I just sent you his address. I'm going back to bed. Good luck", the coach interrupted rudely.
Click. and the line went dead.
Lily was paralyzed with indecision for about a minute before she turned to Gina who was looking at her curiously.
"What on earth was that call all about?", Gina asked.
"My art coach just called me....I mean the one from that training I signed up for. He said there's a binding contract"
"Oh my God, and what's the contract about?"
"He said that the donor who bought my art will require my services"
"What! what kind of services?", Gina asked with her mouth hanging open.
"He said it usually means the artiste gets to paint for the donor but that some donors would want something else"
"And what would that something else be?"
"I have no idea, okay? , Gosh! what have I gotten myself into?", Lily said with agitation, her voice rising.
"Calm down. It doesn't really sound bad. I mean your art was bought for a whopping $25,000 and all you have to do is paint for the donor?", Gina said.
"Well, what if this donor doesn't want painting? what if he wants s*x? And I really hate him...ughh this insolent Michael. Such an asshole ", said Lily with a pout.
"Well, we saw his girlfriend at the art gallery opening so I doubt he would want s*x. He has a girlfriend so he is not starved of s*x"
"I really hope so because I was already planning on returning the money but seems like the contract is a binding one", Lily said helplessly.
"Why would you want to return the money? Babe! When next do you think you would see $25,000 at once? You need the money. We need it! ", Gina said.
"Well, I have an idea", Lily said
"Oh no....I know that face. This won't be good", said Gina
"How about you go to his house in place of me?"
"Huh? I have a boyfriend"
"No, you don't have to do anything. It would just discourage him that I didn't want to come and maybe he would cancel the whole thing "
"No Hun. I can't even paint. That's your area of expertise"
Lily huffed as she proceeded to go make herself a cup of coffee in the kitchen.
"Babe just go for today. If it's something uncomfortable then you can tell him you don't wanna continue and maybe refund his money?", Gina said
"I'll likely be sued if I breach the contract. It's not just about refunding the money now", Lily spoke from the kitchen.
"He may not be that bad. I get that he made a bad first impression but just go and see how today goes", Gina advised.
Lily thought about this with her steaming cup of coffee. Well, she had already removed some sum from the $25,000 that she was paid. She had already paid half a year's rent to the landlord from the money. She might as well go and paint for Michael, assuming that was at all what he would want from her. And what else could he possibly want from her, since they were mortal enemies and hated each other. She decided to give it a try.
