Chapter 45

983 Words

CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE Claws sink into the earth, a primal instinct throbbing through my veins as I face down the snarling rogue before me. The night air is thick with the copper scent of blood, and the chilling howls of combat echo all around us. My heart pounds a fierce rhythm, yet fear doesn't grip me as it once would have—not since Lucas looked into my eyes and said he saw strength where others saw weakness. "Grace, watch out!" His voice pierces the cacophony, and I duck just in time as a hulking wolf lunges over me, its jaws snapping at the space my throat occupied moments before. "Thanks," I gasp, rolling to my feet, feeling an odd sensation tingling at the base of my spine. It's an energy I've never felt before—a pulsing, radiant power that feels both foreign and intimately familiar.
