At half past one in the afternoon, Lenard was in a luxurious villa.
He sat quietly on the sofa in the hall, and Asher stood respectfully in front of him.
After a while, Lenard asked flatly, "What have you found out?"
Asher reported, "According to my investigation, Craig fell severely ill and was in the hospital three years ago. He never left Washington. Moreover, almost all the wealthy families in New York believe in your death. No one knows that you were saved. The Byrne family is not that powerful in Washington. Craig was not competent to secretly save you and took you back to Washington."
Lenard didn't get any useful information and asked with a gloomy expression, "Is that all? You haven't found anything, have you?"
Asher hurriedly said, "I got a clue. When I investigated Craig, I found that he used to join the army in New York for many years. I wonder if it was his friend in New York who saved you and sent you to Washington. In this way, your marriage with Aurelia made sense."
Lenard was shocked at Asher's words.
After knowing it, he got something figured out.
After pondering for a moment, he said carefully, "The person who saved me probably is from the Welch family as well."
Asher looked at Lenard and became excited. He thought, Lenard was poisoned back then. The one who could bring him back to life and send him to Washington without letting anyone else know must have been extraordinary. He failed to restrain his curiosity and asked, "Mr. Welch, who do you refer to?"
Lenard glared at him and said coldly, "You'd better not be curious about it."
Asher quickly lowered his head and said, "I see."
Lenard's expression turned gloomy. Although he had guessed the person who saved him, he didn't understand what the person intended to do. Vincent's face flashed across Lenard's mind. As an illegitimate child, no one in the Welch family took him seriously. How did he get the power to poison Lenard and take the place of their father to be at the helm of the Welch family? Lenard had plenty of questions.
Lenard knew that Vincent was not loyal to him long ago, but he didn't expect that Vincent would be able to put him in danger.
He thought lowly of Vincent.
As Lenard remained silent, Asher couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Welch, is there anything else you need me to investigate?"
"Well, you have done a great job. You can wait for my news later," Lenard answered.
Asher had helped Lenard seek out part of the truth. If Lenard wanted to know more about it, he had to deal with Vincent. Although Asher was the richest man in California, he did not have the ability to meddle in the affairs of the Welch family.
Asher nodded and then took out a black bank card from his pocket. It was a River Bank card. Only those with high social status could get it, and the deposit inside must be no less than 16 million dollars.
Asher handed the bank card to Lenard with both hands and said, "This is the card you asked me to apply for yesterday."
Lenard was from an affluent family. He had never lacked money since he was little, and he never took money seriously. He didn't care about the amount of money he had at all.
However, he changed his mind after remembering what he had experienced over the past three years in Washington. He had to admit that money was useful. It could change many things.
For example, it could help Aurelia.
Lenard reached out to take the bank card and put it in his pocket.
"Mr. Welch, I bought a phone for you. Here it is. I've put my number in it. If you are in need, you can contact me directly." Asher took out a mobile phone and handed it to Lenard after giving the card to him.
Although the phone looked ordinary and simple, it was strictly limited worldwide and cost a fortune.
Lenard took the phone and looked at the time. Then, he stood up and said, "I'm leaving."
"I'll send you off," Asher said.
"No need," Lenard replied.
After that, he strode away.
After leaving the villa, Lenard went straight to River Bank.
River Bank was a local bank in California, but it developed quickly in recent years. Until now, River Bank had branches all over the country and was well-capitalized.
Just as Lenard entered the bank, he saw many people queuing in the hall.
Lenard did not join them. Instead, he walked straight to the reception room.
When he arrived at it, Lenard pushed the door open and entered.
"What are you doing? Go to the hall to line up. You are not allowed to enter here." Ida Malvina, the customer manager, sat on the chair and glanced at Lenard.
Lenard ignored her words and walked to the desk. Then, he threw the card on it and said coldly, "I want to withdraw 160 thousand dollars."
Ida stared at the black card with her eyes opened wide.
Ida graduated from a famous school and had strong professional abilities. That was why she had been promoted from an ordinary salesperson in the bank to her current position within just a few years after graduation.
She had seen various kinds of rich people, but Lenard was different from others. He was dressed in ordinary clothes and seemed to be impoverished. Ida was stunned when he took out the black card.
Few people in Washington deserved to obtain it.
After Ida recovered her composure, she put on a smile and replied to Lenard, "I will do it right now."
In her hurry, Ida went to work. Not long after, she came back with the money Lenard needed and said apologetically to Lenard, "I'm sorry. We are out of the cipher suitcase. I've asked someone to buy it. Please wait a moment."
Lenard didn't want to waste time and said, "I don't need that. Just give me a bag."
"Okay!" Ida nodded.
Soon, she took out a black plastic bag and put the money in it.
She sent Lenard off in person. As soon as they were about to go out of the bank, Ida handed her business card to Lenard and said in a delicate voice, "This is my business card. You can call me directly if you need any help. I can come to your door to serve you."
Ida was quite good-looking. As a professional woman, she had a unique charm. However, Lenard seemed not to be tempted at all. He did not take her business card and directly strode away.
Ida watched him leave and murmured, "What a low-profile and aloof man! I'm gonna fall in love with him."
Lenard took a taxi and went home.
After getting out of the car, Lenard walked fast with a plastic bag.
All of a sudden, Alivia appeared from nowhere and stood in front of Lenard. "Isn't this my stupid brother-in-law?"
Alivia and Aurelia lived in the same community, but she lived here temporarily for the convenience of work. Her family still lived in the villa area.
Alivia was not only gorgeous but also had good shape. Moreover, she was talented at painting. She had been learning it since she was a child and made herself a name in Washington.
As a daughter of the Byrne family, Alivia was known as an elegant and versatile woman. However, only those who were familiar with her could tell her true character. She worshiped money and was snobbish. All her friends had deep pockets. She hated people like Lenard, who was penniless and good-for-nothing. Therefore, whenever she met Lenard, she would humiliate him.
Lenard ignored Alivia and said, "You are in my way."
Alivia did not care about his words at all. She glanced at the black plastic bag in his hand and sneered, "What a fool you are! Did you collect a bag of trash to go home again? Aren't you afraid of being beaten?"
She pretended that she had realized something suddenly and continued, "I indeed have a bad memory. You are about to be kicked out of the Byrne's home soon. In the future, you can only rely on collecting trash to survive."
After saying that, Alivia took a sip of the beverage in her hand and threw the bottle to Lenard. "You can have it. You don't need to thank me."
Lenard cast a glance at Alivia, walked past her, and quickly left.
At five o'clock in the afternoon, Lenard finally reached home. Just then, the door was opened from the inside, and Aurelia stood at the door.
She looked at Lenard with her red eyes and said in a serious voice, "Let's divorce."
