CELESTINA

[Delianna’s POV] I’m so excited! I finally got my first-ever salary and I can pay the rental for my apartment, buy some groceries and I’ll save the rest of my money. I need to be cautious with my money now that I’m living independently. I was thankful that he didn’t called. The last two Sundays I would stay the whole day at his office and being alert for his orders. Well, I’m his secretary and Chain is not bad after all. He gave me a double-pay for working even if it’s my day-off. I got more than $1,700 and it’s a bliss. I went inside the Café and ordered my favorite Cold Espresso. I put the two plastic bags below the table as I wait for my order. I feel so proud of myself. Earning with my own hard-work makes me feel grateful. I grew up being treated like a princess. After Mom died, Dad spoiled me almost everything. My Dad owned an island resort and a clothing line, but I insisted to work somewhere else. I know that I would be treated specially than the other employees and I don’t want that. “Miss Lia?” The waitress in front of me asked and I nodded. “Thank you.” I said before I took a sip. I closed my eyes feeling the espresso running down my throat. Best feeling ever. I looked at the door entrance when I heard somebody got inside and I was surprised. I quickly turned around for her not to notice my face. Seven years had passed but I will never forget her face. Her well-refined walk that can make anyone shut their mouth and her mischievous eyes that filled my nightmare a long time ago. Celestina Ayala… She is Chain’s Mother. She’s the only lady that can freak the hell out of me. Celestina was obsessed, having a misconception that Chain and I had a romantic relationship. She ordered her men to look after me like I’m a baby. I’m thankful that Chain made her realize that we never had a romantic relationship and that we hate each other. She was upset and disappointed. I can remember how she pouted like a child. She’s memorable and won’t make you easily forget her. She’s kind, it’s just that…she’s weird. When she’s busy ordering at the counter, I quickly grabbed my things and I did everything for her not to notice me but heck… “Delianna? Is that you?” I rolled my eyes and I slowly turned around with a fake smile. “Mrs. Lopez.” I pretended like I was surprised to see her…and glad? She smiled widely that it reached her eyes. You can never knew a person just by looking at them. “You’ve grown into a matured woman. Come, sit with me.” Oh, gosh. I want to freak out and leave but I couldn’t say no to her, it would be embarrassing and it would surely hurt her feelings. So I sat with her. Her hands were both in twined resting on the table. She keep smiling like a yandere. What the hell is wrong with your family, Chain? “How are you?” “Fine, been busy with work lately.” “I see you’re working like a real woman.” Her eyes glowed in amazement like she’s interested to know more. Oh, please, don’t give me that kind of look. I would probably think that she’s not over with me yet. “Well, a plant needs a water to grow.” I chuckled. She held my hand which made me froze. She looked at me worriedly. “So do you work at your Father’s company?” “No, I’m currently working as your son’s secretary.” My eyes rounded. I shouldn’t have said that! What a stupid tongue. I feel nervous to see her reaction. “Really?! I wonder why Chain didn’t said anything about you.” “Why would he?” Yeah. Like, we’re not even close and we will never be. I feel sorry for Rage and Grief to have him as their best-friend. “Well, you two have a…history.” I laughed, of course it’s fake. Did she really think that Chain and me have a history? “Chain was just my classmate, Mrs. Lopez.” “Yeah, I know. I just feel sad. I really like you for my son.” The espresso that I drank suddenly want to get out of my stomach. I really couldn’t picture out me and Chain being together. “I feel sorry, Ma’am, the perfect woman for Chain will show up in the right time.” “I hope so, but I hope that it would be you.” “Pardon me, Mrs. Lopez?” I heard her mumbling something but she just shook her head. We made our way out of the Café and her personal assistant was already waiting for her beside her car. “Here. You can always talk to me and please inform me when Chain is giving you a hard-time at work. Okay?” She gave me her business card and hugged me before she left. I waved at her before she went inside the car. Her personal assistant, Yumi, smiled at me. I can still remember her giving Chain a ride home every dismissal. I keep waving until I can no longer see her car. Mrs. Lopez always makes me feel vulnerable even seven years already passed. I feel like I had a Mom because of her. She would invite me to dinner with just the two of us. Treat me with an ice cream when my grades are high but the thing is, she’s really eager to have me as her daughter-in-law. I was on my third-year as an high school student, when she asked me to marry his son. “I’m sorry to tell you this, Ma’am, but I really don’t like your son.” I said that to her and I feel bad when she didn’t showed up for a month but before I transferred to another school, we talked and made things clear. I went inside the subway with my hands full of plastic bags. It’s very hard to live independently, the subways were almost full and I didn’t experienced this kind of life before. I greeted the landlady before I encountered series of stairs as I finally reached my apartment and after I swung the door open, I saw my boss sitting on my couch wearing his usual navy suit while reading some of the magazines that I own. “What took you so long?”
