4: Meet Sabine— Meet Milta WILKIE brought up the tea at twelve forty-five. Callaghan was in the bathroom. He came out, put on a fresh shirt and collar, drank a little rye and then the tea. He felt very good. He was putting on his overcoat when the telephone in the sitting-room rang. It was Leonore. She said: "Mr. Callaghan? This is Leonore Wilbery. Have you got a car?" Callaghan said he had. "Could you bring it round?" she asked. "I want to go to a place called The Dene, in Forest Row, Ashdown Forest. Is that all right?" "Certainly," he replied. "How are you feeling now?" "Quite all right," she said. "I've had a rest and changed my frock. I've just had a double martini and I feel wonderful."
