Dimitrius' POV
A let out a sorrowful howl as I felt my mate bond break at the middle of the night. I burst awake and panted but as the pain came, it disappeared and I was confused as to why I had been in pain to begin with. I closed my eyes but sleep evaded me. I got up and went to my bathroom and took a long cold shower, by the end of it, I was freezing but the sense of loss was still there. I paced my room feeling restless.
'Why do you feel so restless?' I asked Jasper, my Wolf.
'I'm not sure. I feel void...' He whispered and laid his head down weakly.
"What's wrong with me?" I let out a dry chuckle and ran my hand through my hair as I took a seat on the side of my bed. The bedside alarm clock read 0300am, only 2 more hours and it was time training. I turned my head slowly to stare straight in front of me when I found a stack of papers, sticking out from one of the drawers. I unconsciously let out a small smile.
"Why do I feel so sad? Who is Lucifer Manchester?" I let out a frustrated growl and rubbed my face hard. I grabbed my hair and tugged at it until my alarm clock rang. I let out a sigh and, turned the alarm off and walked out of my room. The halls were quiet, a bit too quiet as no one was awake yet.
I walked down the 10 flights of stairs and walked straight until I reached the kitchen. I pushed open the door and found Paccia sitting on a stool eating cereal with a confused look on her face.
"What's wrong with you?" I asked as I poured some milk into a bowl before pouring my favorite cereal in it.
"There's like a blank space in my memory bank yesterday since I woke up. I have no idea what I did during that time nor why I was doing it the first place."
I let out a sigh before taking a seat next to her, waiting for the cereals sweetness to mix with the milk. I stirred the cereal around and let out another sigh before lifting my spoon to take a bite when I got a mindlink. I sputtered from the shock as I was spacing out and I stood up with a slight blush on my face while staring at my mess. I looked to the side and found Paccia staring at me.
"It's not even surprising to see you blushing any more since yesterday." She shrugs as she stands up as well. I raise an eyebrow at her and she shrugs, "I need a distraction."
We both rush out and head to the location where we were facing a breach. When we got there, 5 rogues were already down and 4 more were there. I let out an angered howl when one of the rogues snapped one of our pack warrior's neck. I felt the break in the pack bond and heard a sorrowful howl from his mate.
I ran straight into the battle and ripped a rogue off one of my warriors and snapped its neck with my bare hands. After seeing me snap their friends neck in human form, they whimpered and ran off. Rightfully so to be afraid, the average wolf was about the size of a bear. Alphas, Betas, and Gammas were slightly bigger but much stronger than normal wolves. Just being able to hold the rogue in my hand and snap its neck while it was thrashing about was something to be feared. These wolves weight a ton, close to 450 pounds on average and to lift them with one hand was feat. But then again, I was soon-to-be alpha and was much stronger than the average alpha due to my royal blood.
I opened my mouth to speak when a figure rose from the shadows and walked over to the closest fallen wolf next to him.
"Your time has run out, follow me into the afterlife. I watched as he moved from body to body, repeating the same words over and over again until he knelt down in front of me to get to the wolf I had killed. When he looked up, my breath hitched. Something was nagging at me to look closely at him but before I could, he disappeared before my eyes. A soft breeze caressed my cheek and wrapped around my body before leaving. I shook my head and watched as the wolves turned to dust and except our pack warrior.
"He deserves a funeral worthy of his service and rank." A deep baritone whispered in my ear before it disappeared with the wind.
I closed my eyes and lifted the warrior up before walking towards the packhouse. A small tear fell down my cheek as a weird sense of longing throbbed in my heart.
The day went on as usual and by night we were attending the funeral of our fallen member.
"He will be watching over you, be strong for yourself and the gift he left behind." A warm deep baritone sounded from behind the warrior's mate and everyone's eyes widened when we realized he was here this whole time.
"What the... where'd you come from?" I asked in disbelief. It was the same person from earlier.
I was ignored. I gritted my jaw in anger and I stormed towards him when he spoke.
"He wanted me to pass on a message to you." He held her hand and closed his eyes. A warm air surrounded us when he opened his eyes a projection came out and took form in the shape of the fallen warrior. He spoke as tears filled his eyes but that's not what had my attention, it was the beautifully tattooed man projecting the projection. He was covered in sweat as if it took all his power to make the projection. He seemed to be in pain and when I touched him out of concern, a sharp hiss of pain escaped my mouth. Damn, he was burning as if he was being set aflame from the inside out.
"... Goodbye, until we meet again." As his last word rang out, the mysterious man closed his eyes and let out a shuddering breath before he opened his eyes again and I was met with misty grey eyes with a tinge of gold around the edges.
Before I could question him, he disappeared but reappeared only a couple feet away. He looked bewildered and tried again but this time he disappeared and appeared on the same spot. I smirked at him and stormed my way towards him in anger. How dare he trespass on my lands?
"Last time I came here, you weren't Alpha, were you promoted overnight?" He taunted me and my eyes turned black with rage. How dare he belittle me?
(Kill him!) Jasper growled in rage as he pushed for control.
His face turned sad and he looked up at the moon as if searching it for answers. As if he got his answer, he looked down and let out a sigh before facing me.
"I was out of context, please forgive me for my impudence." He gave me a sad smile and when I grabbed him by the neck and lifted him off the ground.
He didn't struggle, just watched me with sad eyes. I heard shriek coming for the sky and found something white flying circles around us.
"Stay out of this, snow." The man said and I had to admit his voice alone sent shivers down my spine, in a good way. His face was turning blue from the lack of oxygen and I found myself easing my grip slightly.
"Dimitrius, stop!" Paccia ran towards me with wide eyes as she stared in shock at the man I was holding.
"Why?!" I growled.
"Please Alpha, let the poor man go. He has no energy as it is." The mourning mate speaks as she stares at the coffin.
"Very well, The sacred ritual must not be postponed. Let the funeral commence." I spoke before dropping the man on the ground. He wheeled two times before standing and walking towards the shadows but not leaving the area. I could feel his eyes on me most of the night but I could also see him smiling sadly at the moon as if his predicament was a cruel joke.
And maybe it was.
Who would ever know?
