WILLIAMS I closed the door behind me and leaned against it for a moment, letting the silence settle deep in my bones. The day had dragged on like an endless road, my body ached in places I didn’t know could ache, and my mind—well, it had been running all day. I crossed the room, tossed my tie onto the chair and collapsed on the bed. The mattress welcomed me like an old friend. I stared blankly at the ceiling. It looked like nothing. Felt like nothing. Just like me. I had settled for Emily. No fancy love story, no sparks flying, just an agreement. A deal dressed in white lace and forced smiles. Dad's offer had been sharp. “Marry Emily and I'll help you get back everything you've lost.” And just like that, I said yes. It was never about Emily. Never. She was convenient. Present. Sasha
