24. A Shoe by the bin

SASHA The air outside was thick and it felt like it was welcoming the evening, I had decided to wheel the waste bin out of the house that evening. Normally, the gateman was the one who wheeled the waste bin out to the main trash area, but he hadn't shown up since morning. There was no explanation, not even a word as the reason for his absence. I should have waited or called one of the housekeepers. But something inside me—maybe frustration, or probably the need to feel in control made me grab the small waste bin from the kitchen myself.
