Prologue

Diva knelt to shush the sobbing queen.  “Be quiet you welp.” The witch’s hiss left Queen Nalaide silent.  Nalaide held her swollen stomach as she watched in hypnotic horror as Diva danced around a green flame. Diva took a hand full of powder and tossed it into the inferno. She mumbled in an ancient tongue.   All manner of dark creatures rose from the undergrowth to watch the magic practitioner. Nalaide could hear the hissing and snapping of demons. They moved across her like shadows.  Diva stopped. Limbs bent unnaturally and black ink spread across her eyes.  “He is here.”  The emerald inferno exploded out and engulfed her. Nalaide scrambled to the edge of the cave trying to escape the flames. In the fire she could still make out Diva’s shape, she was still dancing. But there was something else, something bigger, who’s two black eyes were voids in the fire. They were looking at Nalaide as her body went rigid.  “Child!” it said before the fire burnt out and the light died.
