1518 Words
As Zack took the stage at the 50th Anniversary celebration of Miller Legacy Holdings held at The Grand Ballroom of The Peninsula Manila, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement. Guests arrived, laughter filled the air, conversations flowed, and everyone indulged in the extravagant buffet. Zack picked up Avery in his luxurious Aston Martin, a symbol of his success and wealth. He drove her to her new condo at The Residences at Greenbelt, a modern high-rise condominium in Makati City. Since becoming Zack's secretary, she had moved from the mansion and started a new life in her own home. Before leaving, Avery bid farewell to Nanay Maria, the household helper who had become a true mother figure to her during her time as Zack's personal maid in the mansion. 6 months ago (flashback) Avery stood in front of Nanay Maria's bed, her heart filled with sadness and worry. The events in the mansion had brought about significant changes in her life. Zack's memory loss had left a deep impact on her heart. "Nanay Maria," Avery's voice trembled. "I know this is difficult, but I need to leave. I can't stay here any longer." Nanay Maria sighed. Her eyes were filled with sorrow and concern. "I know, my child," she replied, her voice soft. "But I hope you don't leave yet." "Nay, I wish you could come with me," Avery said, her eyes pleading. "Child, I've cared for Zack since he was a child," Nanay Maria replied, her eyes filled with love. "I can't leave him, especially now that he doesn't remember anything about you and the accident that happened to him." "I understand, Nay. You take care of Zack," Avery said, her voice full of understanding. "Hija, I have something for you," Nanay Maria said, holding Avery's hand tightly. Nanay Maria took a small box from under her pillow. She opened it and took out a small passbook. "Hija, this is what I've saved for you," Nanay Maria said, her eyes filled with love. "Your father and I have no children, so I've considered you as my own. I hope you can use this for your new home." Avery couldn't believe it. The passbook contained a large sum of money. "Mother, I don't know how to thank you for your kindness, but I can't accept this, you worked hard for this," Avery said, holding the old woman's hand. "Hija, I don't ask for anything else, material or otherwise. Zack has given me everything, even if I didn't ask for it. You need this more, my daughter, so please accept it," Nanay Maria said, her hands tightly holding Avery's. "Thank you so much, Nanay Maria, I still feel like I have a mother because of you," Avery's voice choked with tears. "Don't worry, my child," Nanay Maria said, her hands tightly holding Avery's. "You'll always be in my heart." For the last time, Avery hugged Nanay Maria. She knew her journey wouldn't be easy, but she also knew there were people who loved her, and dreams waiting to be fulfilled. Amidst all the chaos, she believed that the day would come when her world would be whole again. -End of flashback Upon arriving at The Grand Ballroom of The Peninsula Manila with Zack, the surroundings immediately came alive. Avery wore an elegant blue gown with silver detailing that accentuated her curves and showcased her beauty. The gown was a gift from Zack, and she knew he had chosen it for her. Zack, on the other hand, wore a black tuxedo with a white button-down shirt and a black bow tie. His suit perfectly complemented his figure, showcasing his suave demeanor. In the midst of the crowd at The Grand Ballroom of The Peninsula Manila, Avery found herself watching a man walking towards them. Jared Montecalbo, a billionaire known for his handsome looks and charisma. Jared had a tall stature, a tan complexion, and captivating eyes that seemed inviting. His smile held a hint of mystery and allure. He owned Royale Motors, a company known for producing luxury vehicles. His reputation as a playboy preceded him, and Avery knew that his sweet words could easily captivate anyone into his arms. Jared's eyes lit up when he saw Avery. He sauntered over to Zack, extending a hand. "Hey Zack, good to see you again. Your date looks great!" Zack, feeling a bit uncomfortable, introduced Avery, "Jared, this is Avery, my secretary." Jared's gaze lingered on Avery. "You're beautiful, Avery. Do you have a boyfriend?" "Yes, I do," Avery replied, her voice steady and confident. Jared's smile faltered slightly. "That's a shame. Well, perhaps another time then." As Jared walked away, Zack asked, "Avery, are you alright?" "Yes, I'm fine," Avery replied, her voice lacking enthusiasm. "Why do you ask?" "You seemed a little tense around him," Zack said, his voice lacedwith concern. "Not really," Avery said, but her tone was dismissive. "You know he's a playboy," Zack said, his voice holding a note of desperation. "Yes, I know. But please don't worry. I'm not interested in anyone else," Avery's voice was flat. Zack was taken aback by her response. He had been Avery's boss for over six months, and he had never seen her with another man. He had always been the one to pick her up from work, and they often worked late together. He couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy, even though he knew he shouldn't. In the midst of the bustling celebration, Candice suddenly arrived. Her demeanor exuded envy and superiority, as if overshadowed by the outfit of Zack's secretary. Zack had been seeing Candice for a few months, but their relationship was never serious. Candice was known for her string of relationships, and Zack knew it was best to keep things casual. Candice was dressed in a glamorous red gown, with short sleeves and a thin fabric that hugged her body. Her sparkling accessories added extra shine to her outfit. Her hair was perfectly styled, and her makeup accentuated her beautiful and alluring face. Upon seeing Avery, Candice immediately noticed her elegant attire and the confidence in her demeanor. Candice's eyes sparkled with envy and haughtiness as she looked at Avery. "Oh, Avery, you look absolutely stunning tonight," Candice said, her voice filled with haughtiness. "Thank you, Candice. You look lovely as well," Avery replied, with a hint of patience. "You look nice too, but you don't have to overdress just to get noticed," Candice continued, her voice dripping with condescension. "It's okay, Candice. This isn't for you, anyway," Avery replied, her voice tinged with honesty. The evening continued with an unpleasant exchange of words, heating up the atmosphere between Candice and Avery. The words were like swords, revealing each other's hidden emotions. Tension filled the air as the eyes of the two women hinted at a battle of pride and affection. Candice couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. She had always been the center of attention, but tonight, Zack seemed to be more interested in his secretary. The way he looked at Avery, the way he treated her with such care and consideration, it made Candice feel insecure. The MC's voice boomed through the speakers, "And now, ladies and gentlemen, let us welcome the man who embodies the legacy of Miller Legacy Holdings, the heir to this empire, Mr. Zack Miller himself!" "Avery, I'll be back in a minute," Zack said. Avery nodded, her gaze fixed on him. "Go ahead, Mr. Miller, I'll be fine," she assured. The crowd erupted in applause as Zack, looking distinguished in a tailored suit, walked towards the stage. He felt a pang of guilt for leaving Avery alone, but he knew he had to address the crowd. As Zack addressed the guests, sharing the history and success of Miller Legacy Holdings, Avery watched him with a sense of pride. She admired his charisma and leadership, feeling a mix of emotions as she stood amidst the celebration. The evening continued with speeches, toasts, and music, creating a festive atmosphere in the ballroom. As the night progressed, Avery found herself engaging in conversations with other guests, exchanging pleasantries and enjoying the company. Amidst the glamour and excitement of the anniversary celebration, Avery couldn't shake off the lingering tension with Candice and the unspoken dynamics with Zack. She navigated the evening with grace and poise, while her thoughts wandered to the complexities of relationships and emotions. As the night drew to a close, with Zack returning to her side, Avery felt a sense of camaraderie and connection. The celebration had brought forth a mix of emotions and revelations, highlighting the intricacies of personal and professional relationships. With a sense of determination and resilience, Avery faced the uncertainties of the night with courage and grace, knowing that each interaction and experience had shaped her into the person she was becoming. And as the anniversary celebration came to an end, she looked towards the future with a renewed sense of purpose and possibility, ready to embrace whatever challenges and joys lay ahead on her journey with Zack and in her own personal growth.
