Why exactly did Jacob marry me?
I’ve been thinking about it, but I can’t seem to make sense of it. I have nothing to offer him. I’m not rich, I’m not as pretty as the other girls, and I’m only an omega with no parents. And to top it all off, I’m not even from the same pack as him so why me?
Now that I know the mate bond is not the reason for him marrying me, my mind keeps bouncing with so many thoughts.
I know for sure it has something to do with the room he stopped me from entering, but I can’t figure out how. I mean, it’s just a room so how is it connected to me?
I’ve been pacing around, my heart pounding in my chest as my thoughts spiral, but none of it makes sense. All I know is that there is a reason Jacob married me, and somehow, it’s connected to that room and Dominic knows.
The more I thought about it, the more I felt tense. I just have to make a decision. I need to see what’s inside the room.
I walked into the hallway. It was quiet and dim, and with each step I took toward the door, fear crept deeper into me.
For a moment I thought about turning back, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I knew Jacob would be furious if he found out I entered the room but right now I had no choice.
I reached for the handle, my fingers trembling, but before I could touch it, a hand tapped my shoulder.
I froze. My heart dropped.
Oh no, I’ve been caught.
Slowly, I turned thinking it was Jacob only to see Noah standing behind me.
"What do you think you’re doing?" He asked.
"I want to go in," I said.
He scoffed and was about to respond but as footsteps echoed down the hall, he quickly grabbed me and pulled me into the nearest room.
Once we are in, he closed the door "Are you trying to get yourself in trouble?" He hissed. "You can’t be anywhere near that room. It belongs to Alpha Jacob, and no one is allowed inside."
"But I want to see what’s in there," I demanded.
"You can’t!" Noah snapped. "Unless you want to die, you can’t so just stay away." His voice was sharp, but beneath it, I could feel the urgency—the care he tried to hide.
"But Noah."
"No, Osline. Stop being stubborn about this." His tone rose, then he caught himself and exhaled heavily. "Even though I don’t want to talk to you, even though I shouldn’t care, I can’t seem to stop. Please…. stay away from that room. Go into any other room if you must, but not that one."
"Why?" I asked softly.
"I don’t know," He admitted. "All I know is Jacob doesn’t want you or anyone else in there. For your safety, just follow the rules." He turned to leave, but the words tumbled out of me before he could step away.
"I need you."
He froze for a moment, then he scoffed. "You don’t need me, you need your husband. That’s who you should be with."
"No. I need you, Noah."
His shoulders stiffened. "No," He said, pain laced in his voice "You don’t get to say that. Not while you’re married to someone else."
My heart sank. I know he’s right but at the same time, I can’t help it.
As he moved toward the door, I blurted out, "I’m in danger, and you’re the only one who can save me."
That stopped him. He hesitated, then slowly turned back to me.
"Jacob didn’t marry me because I’m his mate," I whispered. "He married me to trap me. There’s something happening here, and I’m scared."
Noah’s brows furrowed. "What do you mean?"
"I… umm.." I stammered "I overheard him talking with Dominic," I confessed. "They mentioned the room… and how it’s the reason Jacob and I are together."
Noah went quiet for a long moment before finally asking, "Why?"
"I don’t know," I admitted, my voice breaking. "That’s why I wanted to check the room myself."
"You can’t," He said quickly. "It’s dangerous for you. Jacob would hurt you if he found out."
"Then what am I supposed to do?" My voice cracked. "Because right now I’m losing my mind, Noah. I can’t stop thinking about it, not since I overheard them. My head won’t rest. I’m scared, and you are the only person I can talk to, but even then, I know I betrayed you and it’s dumb of me to talk to you about this."
"It really is dumb of you."
"Yeah but I don’t have any choice, I’m losing my mind." I sighed heavily
He let out a slow breath, his jaw tightening before he finally said, "I can help you."
"You don’t have to," I whispered. "Not if you don’t want to."
He gave a short, dry laugh. "Since when have I ever not wanted to help you?" Then his voice softened. "I still care about you. You know that."
My chest ached at his words. I met his eyes, and the pain between us was clear.
"And even though I shouldn’t get involved," He continued quietly, "I can’t just stand by. I have to help you."
"I don’t want to drag you into this mess," I murmured.
"You already did," He said with a faint scoff. "The moment you told me." After a pause, he added more gently, "I am glad you did though."
I managed a small, broken smile. The truth hurt more than anything, that even after everything, Noah still wanted to help me. I don’t know what I did to deserve him.
"I guess you still believe my mess is your mess," I said, trying to lighten the air.
His lips curved into the faintest smile. "I guess so."
He took a step closer, and without thinking, I mirrored him. We were only inches apart, breath mingling, when the door creaked open.
Dominic stepped in. His eyes flicked between us, suspicion flashing before settling into confusion.
"What are you doing here, Luna?" He asked, his tone calm as he walked closer. "Shouldn’t you be with your husband instead of sneaking around?"
My heart dropped as my mind scrambled. For a second, I could not find my voice. Finally, I forced out, "I’m not sneaking around. Noah was just helping me. That’s all."
"Helping?" He questioned, raising a brow.
"Yes," I said firmly, meeting his eyes. "Helping."
A smirk tugged at his lips. He did not believe me, I could see it in the way his gaze lingered, but I did not flinch. I simply turned away, my heart hammering in my chest.
I just hope he didn’t hear anything.
