Plan one didn’t work, I guess I have to come up with something else but the big question is, what exactly?
I know now that mentioning Jacob’s ex is a sensitive topic. And Dominic seems to hate it but why? Did she do something to him? Was she somehow involved with him and mostly, where is she now?
The more I thought about it, the more my mind couldn’t contain the thought. I know something happened, and it’s something serious I can’t pretend to deny. I really need to find out more about Jacob’s mate, it’s the only way I can leave here without waiting sixty days.
As I am drowned in my thoughts, Jacob’s voice chirped "You want to spend time with me, don’t you?"
I turned to face him and replied "I changed my mind."
He scoffed "Well, I want to spend time with you. Why don’t we spend the evening together… just the two of us?"
My eyes bulged in shock but a small smile danced over it "What made you change your mind?"
"My plans for you." The evil smile that appeared right after his words told me he was planning something evil.
I don’t want to go with him but I know I should. Maybe I can get him to say something about his mate.
Later that day, I slipped into a blue gown that hugged me in all the right places. Its neckline was simple but beautiful. It looked elegant—almost too elegant for dinner in the garden.
Jacob and I are having dinner in the garden. I didn’t know why he chose that place, or why he’d spent the entire day trying to make it look romantic, but something in me tells me he’s planning something—and it might not be good for me.
As I walked down the stairs, I saw Jacob standing there, hands tucked in his pockets, eyes fixed on me. For a moment, it seemed like he was admiring me, but his face stayed unreadable, cold in a way that made my stomach tighten.
I reached the bottom of the stairs and waited for him to say something, but he didn’t.
"Shall we go?" I asked softly.
It took him a moment before he finally replied, "Of course." He put his hand on my small back and we walked to the garden.
When the door opened, revealing the garden, my eyes widened in awe. I could have sworn I heard myself whisper “wow,” even though my lips hadn’t moved.
Jacob stepped forward and pulled out a chair for me. I sat down, and he took his own before pouring us each a glass of champagne.
"You can go ahead and say it—this place looks amazing," He said, grinning proudly.
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. "Oh please, don’t be full of yourself. It’s just okay. I’ve seen better."
"Oh really, where?" He asked as a smirk danced across his face.
"You know… the place and…. umm.." I rambled as I wack my brain to think of something.
He noticed that and laughed "Just say you love it and move on."
"It’s good but I don’t love it." I lied. It’s the best thing I’ve seen but admitting to it means betraying Noah and I can’t do that.
"Whatever you say Osline." He said as he served me the food. It’s Alfredo pasta, my favorite.
I took a bite of the spaghetti. It was so good it felt like my mouth was having an explosion of flavors.
Jacob studied my face and said, "You love it, don’t you?"
"It’s not that bad," I replied.
"You just can’t admit that something I did is good, can you?"
"I’ll only admit it if it’s actually good. In this case, it’s rather bland," I said firmly. I am not here to hand out compliments.
"Keep lying. I know it’s good," He said, taking a bite of his own spaghetti.
I kept eating, finishing my plate before I realized it. I couldn’t believe I’d done that—pasta is my weakness, and clearly, I had no morals when it came to it.
"I think I deserve a score. I got you your favorite food and in your best place for a date," He said casually, taking a sip of his champagne.
My eyes narrowed. "How did you know about that?" I asked. "I never told you anything."
He leaned back, slightly tensed at first but then he smirked "There is nothing about you that I don’t know."
My heart dropped "What do you mean?"
"I told you in the beginning. I know everything and all that you think you’re hiding from me. I know better."
"So you’ve been stalking me?"
He shrugged. "If stalking means knowing everything I should know, then yes—I have." His voice trailed off when he saw the shock on my face. "Wait, did you really think I was joking when I said I knew everything? Or that I asked you out to dinner because I wanted to get to know you?"
"No, Osline, I don’t," He said before I could respond. "I already know everything I need to know. But after tonight, I can tell one more thing—you’ll do anything to uncover truths you shouldn’t be looking for." He took his final sip of wine, then stood up. His movements were calm, almost too calm, as he walked toward me. He leaned close—close enough for me to feel his breath and meet his eyes without flinching.
"Kill that curiosity," He said softly. "You won’t like what you find if you don’t. I’m warning you, things will get ugly."
As terrifying as he sounded, I couldn’t let him see the fear in me. I had to stand for myself and so I did. "There’s no light without darkness, right?" I said, forcing a small smile even though my heart was racing. "Warnings don’t change anything. You already trapped me here, that alone tells me things are going to be bad. And don’t worry, I’m always ready for the worst."
His jaw clenched. "Osline…" He whispered, his fingers brushing against my face before stopping under my chin. He tilted my head up gently, making me look at him. He leaned in, his face just inches from mine.
"You seem confident," He murmured, voice low. "But you have no idea what you’ve stepped into. I’ll give you seven days. Figure out whatever it is you’re so desperate to know. If you succeed, I’ll let you leave. But if you don’t…" His gaze dropped from my lips to my eyes, and a slow smirk curved his mouth. "I’ll know exactly what to do with you."
He released my chin and walked away, but his words clung to me. A part of me was scared but another part was ready for this.
Challenge accepted. I’ll do whatever it takes to find the truth. The sooner I know, the sooner I leave.
Things are about to get very interesting.
