Seven days. That’s all I have till I get my freedom back. I can already feel myself getting happy again, getting better again. Now all I have to do is find out the truth about Jacob’s mate and why I am here. The second I know everything, I’ll finally be free.
At breakfast Jacob was completely silent, Dominic wasn’t with us; it was just the two of us today.
The dining room was utterly silent and after a while Jacob spoke "So, have you figured something out?"
"I wouldn’t tell you right away even if I did,"
He scoffs "There is nothing you can know but I’d definitely like to see you try. It will be really fun," a wicked grin spreads across his face as he spoke.
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. He thinks he’s sneaky, he thinks I can’t do anything. Well, I can do more than just that. I don’t have my plans ready yet but I will soon.
Before seven days end, I’ll be able to get all the information I need, after all, this isn’t my first time investigating something.
As I kept eating, one of the guards walked into the dining room "Alpha Jacob, you have a visitor?" He said, his gaze facing the ground.
"What kind of visitor?" Jacob asked
"An Alpha from the neighboring town." He says
"I’ll be there in a few minutes."
"Okay, Alpha." The guard said before walking away.
Jacob takes a sip of juice and finishes up his meal before he walks out of the room. He made sure to glance at me for a brief second and then walked out.
As soon as he’s away, Noah walked up to me from nowhere "I need you to meet me at the barn in twenty minutes."
"Why? What happened?" I asked, slightly panicked.
"Just come. It’s urgent." He said and then walked away.
My heart dropped. I began to wonder if something had happened to Noah or worst-case scenario, Jacob found out something about Noah and me.
I didn’t wait to finish my breakfast. I was too panicked to do that so I just walked out of the dining room. I head outside, check on Jacob to see if he’s busy or not, once I check he’s completely busy and won’t be on my way, so I head to the barn.
"Noah," I called out when I walked in.
He turned to me "Osline, I told you twenty minutes. It’s not time yet."
"I couldn’t wait, what’s going on? Are you okay? Did something happen?" I asked panicking
"Relax okay, I’m fine." He said holding me close.
"Then why did you tell me it was urgent?"
"Because I know if I don’t see you now, I might not see you at any time. Jacob’s eyes are over you Osline, but now that he’s busy, it’s my only chance."
"Ohh,"
"Yeah, anyways, I wanted to tell you that I found out something about Jacob that might help you."
"What is it?"
"You know Jacob has an ex-mate right?" He asked, and I nodded. He continued "Well, she disappeared out of nowhere. There is no solid evidence of what actually happened to her."
"I don’t get it."
"It’s complicated but she was never announced dead nor did they separate. She just mysteriously disappeared and from what I learnt, Jacob has been acting very differently ever since. It’s like he’s changed. He’s more strict, more focused, and maybe just maybe that room you mentioned he forbade you from entering has something to do with her."
"Do you think he thinks he killed her and put her in the room?" I asked. I know it’s crazy to think about that but Jacob is full of surprises, he can do anything.
"We don’t know if she’s dead but I thought about what you said and then I discovered that Alpha Jacob actually loved her and he was a complete mess when she disappeared so it can’t be him."
"Ohh." I sigh thinking about everything.
"Yeah. They were really in love. I don’t want to get into details but when it comes down to hurting her, Jacob didn’t."
"So then what?"
"I don’t know but I’ll find out soon. For now, you should just be careful around him. Just because he didn’t hurt her, does not mean he won’t hurt you."
I nodded "Yeah I will. Thank you, Noah."
"You know you don’t have to thank me. I’m happy that I could help you." He said with a small smile.
"You’re the best," I said. I gave him a quick hug before I walked out of the barn.
The moment I walked into the room, I sat on the bed, thinking, piecing everything together. I have this deep, unsettling feeling that there’s more to Jacob’s mate than just her disappearance. If Jacob truly has nothing to do with it, then something else must have happened. But what exactly?
I kept turning it over in my mind, but nothing made sense. Finally, I decided to start searching the room. I know I may not find something but I just can’t just sit back thinking.
I started with Jacob’s cupboard, then the one beside his bed.
There was nothing in there.
Jacob must have hidden things well. Still, I didn’t give up. I checked every corner of his closet until I found a small jewelry box tucked away at the back.
I pulled it out and opened it. The first thing I saw was a photograph of a woman. She looked strangely familiar, though I couldn’t place her.
Beneath the photo lay an old locket. I picked it up and opened it. Inside was the same picture, and on top of it, a name engraved in “Amani”
This had to be it. She must be Jacob’s ex-mate. Why else would he hide this beneath his clothes? Amani… but that still wasn’t enough. I needed to know what happened to her and why I was being kept here because of her.
Because if there’s one thing I’m certain of, it’s that Amani is the reason. She’s the key to my freedom.
But how do I find out more about her? Are there other clues hidden somewhere in this house… or will I have to risk everything and search the forbidden room?
