River's POV I turned to my side and stared at Lyra for several minutes with a smile on my lips. I was awake at three o'clock am and as weird as it may sound, I didn't mind just staring at her at that time of the night. I finally got what I wanted. She was just a teenager when she shattered my heart. I wanted to make her promise to wait for me, but she instead told me point-blank how much she hated my gut. I should have known she was lying.
