Cold Rink, Hot Fire

ROSE Drake growled briefly, turned off his phone, then looked at me for a moment. “Wait a second.” He let go of me, then walked over to the apartment door and the window, making sure everything was secure, closed tightly, and locked. Once he felt everything was safe, he came back to me. “Hey, Drake, what’s up?” I asked him. Drake just chuckled softly, “Some prankster was making threats and interrupting us. Can we continue what we were doing earlier now?” He then touched me again. The sound of my ragged breathing echoed off the walls of the dead-silent loft kitchen. The friction of Drake’s thin T-shirt riding up my inner thighs felt like fine sandpaper setting my entire body ablaze. I hadn’t even realized when the pants I’d thrown on just moments ago had slipped off and hit the floor. His kiss grew deeper, more demanding, and mercilessly intense. Drake moved with the terrifying precision and sheer force of a top-tier athlete; every shift of his arms, the heavy pressure of his fingers digging into my waist, and the firm press of his broad chest against mine were executed with absolute mastery, completely paralyzing every rational thought in my head. “Drake…” I sighed in surrender as his lips finally released mine, trailing down the line of my neck to the sensitive hollow between my collarbones. “Say it,” he murmured, his voice so hoarse and deep it sent a shudder straight down my spine. The touch of his wet, feverish lips left a searing trail of heat against my skin. His large hand crept beneath the hem of my shirt, his warm, rough palm brushing over the bare skin of my stomach, creeping upward until my abdominal muscles tensed reflexively at his touch. “Tell me you still want to pretend this is all just a double-booking mistake, Murphy.” His thumb gently traced the curve of my waist, pressing into sensitive spots that made my breath catch in my throat. The contrast of his calloused fingers, still cool from the lingering night air, against the fever-pitch heat radiating from his body sent a wave of liquid fire straight through my veins. “You’re… you’re cheating, Morvane,” I whimpered, my fingers tangling in his thick hair, gripping him tight as his head dipped lower, planting a slow, lingering kiss on the soft skin just above the neckline of my shirt. “This isn’t cheating, Rose. It’s an open game,” Drake whispered against my skin, his low, trembling laugh vibrating directly against my chest, making my pulse spike out of control. He lifted his head just enough to lock eyes with me, those icy-blue pupils completely blown wide with a dark, primal hunger. His hand slid further up, his fingers gently skimming the ribs beneath my shirt, pulling my body so dangerously flush against his that I could feel the erratic, heavy thump of his heart hammering in perfect sync with mine. “And I have zero intention of letting you forfeit.” His large hand on my hip shifted, gripping the back of my thigh and hoisting my body slightly higher onto the edge of the cold granite countertop. The sharp contrast between the freezing granite beneath my bare thighs and Drake’s scorching body crowding me made the friction between us agonizingly unbearable. His thumb traced the curve of my thigh upward, tugging the hem of his T-shirt higher, caressing the smooth skin of my inner thigh with slow, deliberately torturous pressure. Every single time his calloused fingers grazed higher, inching toward the most sensitive spot between my legs, my fingers clenched tighter in his thick hair. “Drake, please…” I pleaded before I could catch myself, a breathless, love-struck whimper escaping my lips that I couldn't hold back even if I tried. Drake looked up instantly. His eyes, usually as cold and unreadable as ice, were completely dark now, swimming in a heavy haze of pure passion and absolute possession. He stared down at my swollen, wet lips and my erratic breathing. “Please what, Rose?” he murmured, brushing his lips against the corner of mine, letting his warm, mint-scented breath caress my face. “Please stop… or please never stop?” I looked straight into his eyes, finding the reflection of a girl completely brought to her knees by his touch. There was no more room left for denial, no more defensive tactics to hide behind. I closed the last sliver of distance between us, whispering my answer right against his lips before pulling him back into a scorching, seamless kiss. “Don’t you ever dare stop, Captain.” A wicked, triumphant grin spread across his impossibly handsome face. Before I could even catch my breath, he effortlessly lifted me off the counter, carrying me through the dark loft and into his bedroom. He brought me down onto the mattress, his massive frame pinning me beneath him in an instant. His hands moved wildly, tracing every single curve of my skin and sending violent shivers straight through my core. His kisses trailed feverishly down the line of my neck, mapping a path straight down to my exposed stomach. "Tonight, I want you to forget every single bad thing you’ve ever heard about me from anyone else," Drake whispered, his voice dangerously low. The dark, intoxicating look in his eyes, the exact look that had sent my heart spinning out of control, turned fiercely, dead serious. "You might have ended up under my roof by total accident, Rose, but there's nothing accidental about how bad I want you." With my lungs still fighting for air, I nodded slowly, completely spellbound. Drake leaned down, capturing my lips in a kiss that started agonizingly soft before deepening into a possessive, searing claim. When he finally pulled back just an inch, his heavy gaze searched every detail of my face. "Drake, what I see and feel right here, directly from you, is the only thing that matters to me," I breathed, my hands resting over the hard beat of his chest. "People can throw around all the rumors they want, but as long as you’ve never given me a reason to doubt you, then to me... none of it means a damn thing." Drake’s breath caught in his throat. My words seemed to strike something deep inside him, melting the last layer of icy reservation behind his eyes. A soft, breathless laugh escaped his chest before he buried his face in the crook of my neck, inhaling deeply. "You're going to destroy me, Murphy," he murmured against my skin, his hands sliding around my waist, pulling my hips tightly against his.
