Chapter 20 Mark The castle was a brilliant bone white, rising starkly against the sky on the edge of the cliff. The ocean crashed against the rocks below. Everything was sharp and clear now. Somehow, that made what was happening even more confusing. I looked over my shoulder and saw the place we’d walked through moments earlier completely walled off by a strange fog where the shimmer had been. When I turned to look ahead again, the day was still as sharp and sunny as my first glimpse. But the weather wasn’t the only contrast. The castle itself was altered. When we’d left the car, we’d been walking toward ancient ruins. Now, a well-fortified castle greeted us instead, standing proudly at the edge of land like a sentinel preparing for invasion.
