I walk up the steps with determination, holding my coat closed as a gust of wind sweeps. It’s been two days since I last saw Alec. I’ve tried calling and texting, but all I’ve received is radio silence. I even went to his apartment, but there was no answer.
So there is only one place he can be: at work. As I step into the reception area, a woman with dark blue hair, wearing a white shirt and black pants, greets me.
“How may I help you?”
I smile, hoping to sweeten her up enough to get his floor number. “I’m here to see Alec Michael.”
“Can I take your name, please?”
I bite my lower lip. I know I shouldn’t be doing this, but I need to see him. I won’t let him escape me this time. “Lizzy Michaels. I’m his sister. I have a surprise for him that he doesn’t know about.”
