Sweet Dreams

A heavy base of a riddim reverberated in the basement club. It was a typical youth gathering at Bluemoon Pack. Everyone looked good. The boys looked hot and the girls looked sexy. It seemed as if the Goddess had particularly blessed the pack with lithe bodies, muscles in proportion with little to no effort for most pack members and their vanity was not hidden. Growing up Jerome had hated having to introduce himself because he didn't fit the mold his older siblings did. Girls wanted to be his friend to get to his brothers and boys wanted to be his friend to get to his sisters. It wasn't until he was about 14 that girls started noticing that he was attractive. He hadn't really been expecting it and he was appalled at their attempts to touch him all the time. Eventually he had just ended up making the air around himself uncomfortable for anyone who got too close. PDW had actually stepped back repulsed after giving him a bro hug. That's how he knew it was working. Of course, his best friend had mentioned it. "Don't ever get close to me with that coldness again man. I'm not some chick trying to grab your goods. I practically changed your diapers and I'm not jealous." Pieter snapped angrily. "Sorry DW. I'll drop it when you come close but you need to help me keep them off. I mean, I'm just doing this High School thing because Ma thinks I missed out on my childhood. I think it's stupid." "Hey, at least you now know what I mean when I talk about High School sucking balls." Jerome shrugged, "It's actually a lot of fun, I mean, the homework is easy, I get to do sports, because I'm not too young and I don't have to worry about being picked on my kids twice my age." Pieter sighed, "Yeah, that was some messed up s**t, right there. But you handled your own very well back then." Jerome grinned. "Aw, was my big badass Beta actually worried that those bullies would whoop my ass?" Pieter looked across the desk at his life best friend. "I sure as f**k was worried 'Ro. Those spoiled brats don't play fair. I'd have killed them for hurting you." Jerome smiled, "I knew you loved me!" He jumped up and down pumping his fist in the air. "Ha! Suck that Dre!"  His older brother Dre had once told Jerome that he'd take Pieter as his Beta since they had a strong bond. Jerome had gotten very upset. The Alpha-Beta bond was almost like a mate bond. Every Alpha was connected to their Beta. And separating the two was generally frowned upon. "Whatever man, you're like the annoying kid brother I never had and you know we ain't got no choice but to love family. Don't make me beat you into silence. Help me with my homework, I don't want to do this all night. Come on boy genius, help your best brother out." Pieter scowled.  Jerome calmed down. He knew Pieter hated displays of affection so he did a little dance to the music playing in the basement then sat across from Pieter. It was their after school ritual.  Pieter did his homework at home and Jerome did his homework in homeroom or his free period. After school or practice whichever was the last activity of the day they did Pieter's homework, although Pieter was quite smart he liked making Jerome sit on standby just in case he needed him. It wasn't often but when Pieter didn't get things he knew Jerome would not make him feel stupid. "You want to join the party after we're done?" Pieter asked randomly. He knew Jerome would say no but he asked anyway. Jerome shrugged, "Sure, why not? Then I can say I went to parties when I was in high school. No one needs to know they were daytime parties set up by my older siblings to help the pack youths blow off steam so we could do patrols and keep up appearances with the humans. No one would believe me any way." Pieter laughed. "I'm just hoping my mate will be there. We're in junior year and I'm not trying to find her when I'm twenty-five." "DW you're 16, you have nothing to worry about. Besides, next year we're seniors and we can focus on getting our pack training done before you turn 21 so that when you are ready to mate I can give you a month to memorise her curves and get over the call of True Nature." Jerome calmly told his friend. Pieter groaned and hit his head against the desk. They had both seen how crazy Jerome's brothers had gotten when they met their wives. They had worked out that due to their enhanced abilities they would both be a little crazier and so would need a little longer to work out the adjustment to mated life.  While it was rare for an Alpha and Beta pair to be equally matched Jerome and Pieter knew they were. They were each other's keeper, literally. All of Pieter's short-comings were balanced by Jerome's strengths and all of Jerome's weakness were covered by Pieter's strengths. When they trained together, in earnest there was an almost chemistry.  They didn't train together often, especially not in public because things got really intense, quite quickly and most people could not stand the ferocity of their training routine whether they were watching or participating. Pieter was a very strong Beta, to the point where he was virtually immune to junior alphas. This in itself was rare. The kind of rare that made him and his alpha targets for power-hungry individuals. Growing up they learned very quickly to mask their power and only emit enough to let people know they were high-ranked wolves and possibly first or second tier. Most people mistook them for top Tier Deltas which they did not mind at all. "Hurry up DW, I wanna party." Jerome whined as he threw himself on his bed as he waited for his best friend to wrap up his homework. He was kidding of course but it was fun to say. His best friend mumbled something about annoying younger siblings and slowly moved his pen across the page. He knew the answers but it was more fun to annoy the heck out of Jerome. He could almost hear the nerve on Jerome's jaw tick. He quickly stifled a guffaw. Then one of his favourite tracks started playing in the basement and he raced through the last paragraph of his assignment. He hastened to put his pen down and pack his back pack for the next day and  skipped out the door with Jerome at his heels. They parkoured down to the basement with practiced ease.  When they got to the basement, the air was already saturated with sweat and hormones. Girls were grinding on guys, guys were grinding on girls, some girls were grinding on other girls and the few wall flowers were making videos. The DJ saw the alpha pair and raised his hand in greeting. Both boys waved back. The bartender slid their favourite drinks across as they approached the bar. A few choruses of disapproval rang until they saw where the drinks were going. Most of the others lined across the bar just nodded in respect at the boys and waited their turn.  Two very brave girls put their arms around the two and said hi. Jerome looked at Pieter and they nodded at each other then greeted the girls and left their embrace at the same time. They found a spot where they could survey the entire room and it was the usual. The room was packed with bodies that were dancing. The plus of this party was that they would be murdered if anyone was found drinking. Most of the teens got drunk at home and then arrived at the party with their inhibitions firmly on the back of the family home's door. The pack was strict like that. Parents could pretty much raise their kids however they liked but pack law was held firmly outside the home. If a kid got drunk at home the parents did the disciplining. If a kid got drunk at a party, the pack did the disciplining.  Everyone knew the rules. Even the newer pack members. All-in-all it made for safe teenage gatherings and there were very few cases of s****l assault as compared to other packs. They also didn't host inter-pack parties without adult supervision. And by adult supervision it was meant the warriors and enforcers of the pack. Most packs knew better than to mess with Bluemoon pack laws and if they didn't like it they didn't have to attend Bluemoon events. But, because the girls were divine and the boys looked like fallen angels most people towed the line if they were invited. That was probably because once you got kicked out only your Alpha could apply to get you  back onto Bluemoon territory and that meant a punishment from your Alpha for his trouble and it annoyed the Alpha's to have to beg to let one of their pack members onto Bluemoon territory for festivities.  A dance battle grew on the floor and everyone was hyped. A large circle formed around the battling dancers and the crowd responded to the skill of the two dancers as they subtly and sometimes not so subtly challenged and insulted each other as they danced. Jerome enjoyed the music, there was something about it that helped him set aside his responsibilities ever so slightly.  Jerome nudged Pieter towards the dance floor and they emptied their drinks before getting onto the floor. Jerome had learned how to dance to bond with his older brothers who were dance legends. Pieter had learned to dance to fit in with his future alphas only to discover that the youngest Wilder was destined to be Alpha.  But, whenever they went to inter-pack festivities it always helped that Pieter was smooth on his feet. He always had a femme or two willing to give him their number which soothed his ego. That made Jerome his wingman which was a funny affair since it was usually the beta who was the alpha's wingman. This often made girls think Pieter was the alpha and Jerome always played along. Another wicked riddim played and the two grinned as they danced. Slowly they had a group of girls dancing with them. Jerome saw the pack doctor's daughter stand against the wall. He waved her over. The way her hips had been undulating as she stood against the wall told him she wanted to dance. She joined the loose circle and lost herself to the music. Jerome saw some girls edge her out of the circle and he took her hand twirling her towards him.  A kizomba track came on and some of the girls backed off. Jerome kept dancing. Gabriella danced with him. Pieter grabbed a girl and soon the two pairs were the center of attraction. The synchronicity was unbelievable and every girl wanted to be one of the girls dancing with the alpha pair. The song turned into something a little faster and Jerome and Pieter bowed to their dance partners and led them off to the bar for a drink. Their audience fanned themselves and then went back to dancing.  Several boys high-fived the boys as they walked to the bar. The two girls linked arms and talked to each other. Pieter halted their conversation just enough to find out what they were drinking. Again the bartender slid the boys their drinks and took the order from Pieter for the girls. The bartender slid those over quickly. The girls thanked them for the drink and disappeared into the crowd. Jerome grinned at Pieter who stood with his mouth open. He rolled his eyes and shut his friend's mouth. "Don't tell me you were actually going to take that mouse home?" he teased his friend. "Maybe." Pieter smirked.  "Yeah, well, unlike you I actually do have to take Gaby home. I shouldn't have danced with her like that. It just makes her a target and Aunty Ramona is not going to like me for it." "Her mate is so lucky." Pieter sighed. Jerome frowned, he did not like the direction of this conversation. "Why?" Pieter rolled his eyes before fixing his gaze on his friend, "Dude, don't pretend like we've not all gotten a boo-boo just so that Doc Ra can get up close and take care of it while we wished she would take care of something else." Jerome blushed because he knew he'd done that a few times. Gaby was going to be stunning when she grew up. If her mom was anything to go by, DW was right.  "Okay, fine. She is still a kid though." Pieter whistled, "Clearly not that much of a kid...check that slow wine...I'm telling you man, you're going to have to step up and replace AJ or she's going to be swamped with suitors." Pieter pointed to the two girls they had been dancing with moments before dancing with each other as they followed the lyrics of the song in their moves and executed everything flawlessly. Jerome's mood soured. Gaby was a good kid but she had to know that her dancing like that would make boys think things. He recalled his brother's not standing such type of dancing from their wives and eventually hauling them off to bed.  He shook his head, he wouldn't want his mate showing that side of her to a bunch of unmated males either. His mind wandered to having his mate put her thighs against his and move her hips and he felt hot. He cleared his thought and realised he's been looking at Gaby the entire time. He groaned, he was perving on a kid while thinking of his mate. His mother would kill him and bring him back to life just to kill him again.  He checked the clock on the wall. Gabriella's curfew was in a few minutes. He had to get her home before the Delta who was sweet on her mom dragged her out. He went to her and held out his hand while pointing at the clock with the other hand. She yelped as if she'd been stung as soon as she saw the time and pulled him out of the  basement. Pieter chuckled as he followed them out.  As they got to the pack house front door Gabriella was in a half-jog. Her panic was real. Her mom was not a lenient parent.  Soon the trio were in a full-out sprint. As they got to the front door of the pack doctor's house the house phone rang. Gabriella unlocked the door and ran to the kitchen wall to answer the phone.  "Hi Mommy!" She panted. "I just ran to answer the phone. I almost didn't get home on time...no, future Alpha and Beta walked home with me. Yes, both of them....Mom, I know I said the Beta's cute but that's not why he walked me home," Pieter smirked as the last part was whisper yelled. He popped his collar and waggled his eyebrows at Jerome. Jerome sucked his teeth and shook his head as he retrieved the key from the front door and shut the door behind them. This girl was too trusting. He paused, patrol was supposed to be passing by here any minute now.  He waited ten full minutes before he heard the telltale steps of the patrol as they slowed down just outside the yard. He frowned. Motioning to Pieter he put his finger to his lips and locked the door from inside.  The door handle jiggled and then the doorbell rang. Gabriella put the phone on the counter and went to answer the door. She looked around for the future alpha pair and didn't see them. She shrugged and opened the door. She kept the door partially open. "Kasey, aren't you supposed to be on patrol?" "Yes baby cakes but I came to make sure you met your curfew." "Well, I'm home, thanks." She shut the door only for Kasey to hold it open. "Aren't you going to invite me in? Your mom doesn't finish her rounds for a few more hours. I can keep you company." Jerome felt her panic and stepped forward from the shadows. Pieter held him back. Jerome's eyes widened in protest. "Thanks Kase but the future Alpha pair are here keeping me company." "I don't believe those two let you open the door at this time of night. Let me in baby cakes." Kasey stepped forward and Gabriella stepped back not wanting to make contact with him.  Pieter nodded at Jerome and they both appeared on either side, just behind her. They both scowled at Kasey who paled at seeing the future Alpha and future Beta with their arms crossed looking displeased. He weakly greeted the Alpha pair and said good night. He turned around and went back on patrol.  "How often does he do that?" Pieter asked seemingly curious. Gabriella shrugged, "This is the third time. he walked me home from the last dance party I was at last week and I can't get rid of him. He's so not my type." Jerome snorted, "Gabriella, you're 11. Your type should be seventh graders. I would be seriously worried if you had interests in anyone done with high school. So would your mother. I think she's waiting for you to say good night." Jerome gently hinting at the phone she'd left on the kitchen counter That night Jerome and Pieter had waited until Aunt Ramona got back from her rounds at the hospital. Jerome had no idea that just a few months later he would find himself in a very awkward position regarding Gabriella Hemingford. Doctor Hemingford had thanked them and offered them a meal but they had declined and gone to the Pack House kitchen to fill their stomachs.  Jerome woke up from his short nap wondering why he had dreamt of that memory in particular, He looked at his watch, he was supposed to be meeting with his team in an hour. He stretched, his muscles were still a bit stiff from his thunder tumble with DW.  He smiled, at least she was still in his dreams, he would have her in his arms soon. And now that his best friend had found his mate he didn't have to feel guilty for being happy. He checked his phone, Pieter had forwarded a picture of a pouting Gabriella.  Reading the message that went with he saw that she hadn't been able to come to the club because Maltsev had made a house call to Tony's penthouse. She hinted that she missed her favourite clients, Jerome and Pieter. She signed XO. Pieter had joked that he knew the kiss was for him. Jerome texted back that he dared Pieter to say that while Michaela was there.
