Chapter 15: ANOTHER FRIEND?

1093 Words
"Before we go, let's return this punching bag first. Caligo's cell is far from here" I thought that since Caligo is now the work head assistant, he will move out from the cell. It looks like we will be prisoners forever. Whether we pass or fail. Especially if we fail. "Okay" we untied the punching bag from the branch of the tree and made our way to the headquarters. It wasn't that far though. After returning the punching bag we headed to a different path to Caligo's cell. True to Gio's words, it was far. It was farther than the distance between our cell and the headquarters or the haven. It was near the borders of the island. I can hear, smell and see the sea from a distance. "Wait!" we heard Caligo's voice coming from the inside. We arrived in front of his cell and he responded after a couple of times knocking. I wonder if he has a cellmate or if his only privilege as the work head's assistant is to have the cell all for himself. Well, we will find out. "Who is it?" Caligo asked opening the door. I saw a hint of shock when he saw us. We didn't expect that we would go here either. "Oh? What made you visit my humble cell?" Caligo asked smiling at us. He is wearing simple slacks and plain blue shirt. He looks better in uniform. "We need help," Gio said, straightforward as ever. "For what?" Caligo asked still standing by the doorframe. "Let us in first. We walked all the way here. Our feet are sore" agree. It was not a one-hour walk but it was still exhausting. It took us a longer time than going to headquarter from our cell. No wonder he is sometimes almost late. My muscles are sore like it is telling me to sit already. "Fine. Come in!" He headed to the living room and we followed him. He motioned us to sit on the sofa while he sat along on another sofa in front of where Gio and I are sitting. "Now care to tell me what air brought you here? Is there a problem?" he asked direct to the point. "You can say that" Gio smiled upon answering. Caligo was not able to catch up with Gio's word and made face. "Then tell me" "Remember when I was injured and wasn't able to attend the training for the whole week. It was the stamina building class" Gio explained while it is visible on Caligo's face that he is trying to recall the event that Gio is trying to tell him. "Yeah, I remember. What about it" "You see exams coming up, Mady and I need to strengthen our stamina for the exam. We thought that maybe you could help us" and just like that, Caligo's face instantly changed like he just understood what was happening. "Well that's my job as the assistant to the work head, isn't it?" true. It was indeed his job. A while ago, Gio and I discussed what Caligo's answer would be. We actually planned to use the 'it's your job' card on him if ever he did not agree to our request. Good thing he said yes. "We thought so too" Gio pertaining to our small discussion earlier. "Okay then. When do we start?" Caligo asked me. "Today, actually" I answered. Well, we can't waste time now, can we? We have to maximize our time. I don't want to change work. This is the only way for me to get out of here. "It's fine by me. We have a couple of hours before lunch. Let's train until then" Caligo looked at both of us. "So what do we do?" I said standing up, they both did the same. "Run" Caligo answered putting his arms on his waist. That is so basic! Well, it is given that we are only starting, of course, you would start at basic Mady. "There is a park near here, let's go there" by a near park, did he mean the park where we came from? "Which park?" Gio asked getting the suspicion the same as mine. "The one near the headquarters" I groaned as soon as his words filled the air, I also saw Gio rolling his eyes. We have no choice. It's for our betterment anyways, if I will slack I won't pass. I have to work hard. "Let us do two turns. Let's jog there and back here for two times. We will end up here, by that time it's already lunchtime. Let's have lunch in here" "Woooohhhh" We all exhaled as we finish all the turns. We take a 5-minute rest every half of a turn. And now that we're done, I can't help but feel happy. We stayed at our positions gasping for air for a couple of minutes and when our breathing stabilized we walked to Caligo's cell. "Who are they?" I was stunned to hear another voice as we entered Caligo's cell. Who? "Oh! Hey! Guys this is Khael, my cellmate. He works at machine maintenance" Oh! I guess he did not have the privilege of having a cell all for himself. I looked at his cellmate and find him familiar. I'm not sure where I saw him, maybe back when I was still in Elletra. I'm not really sure. "These are my slaves hahaha. Just kidding, they are part of the Kavan trainees. Mady and Gio" Caligo introduced us to Khael. I gave him a small smile but he just look at me with a blank face. "Even the girl? Was she the one you told me, days ago?" he commented on Caligo's introduction of us. I did not expect that. Looks like a girl being a Kavan guard is an issue to him too. "You shouldn't have said that" Caligo quickly replied to Khael's comment. He knew I would get mad when someone says that. But not this time, I still gave his cellmate a scowl though. Man and their unequal mindset. Khael and Caligo made lunch and we ate it at their dining table while talking about random things. The food was so delicious, I was happy to find out that someone cooks better than Gio. And I was also thankful because they give good foods and ingredients to us, they also provide all our necessities, even without paying. But it all disappeared when I remember that they wouldn't pay us when we work either. What do I expect? We're prisoners after all.
