Chapter 17
I was sitting in a booth in the diner across from the motel, eating breakfast—eggs, toast, bacon, and coffee. It was a joy to feed myself without help when a smiling Adrianna slid in next to me.
“Hey, you,” I said. We kissed, and I waved down a waitress.
“Did you miss me?” she asked.
“Did you know I was watching you yesterday?”
“Funny story,” Adrianna paused to order one of almost everything, adding pancakes, waffles, and a fruit bowl to what I had. “I burned a lot of calories yesterday — and this morning.”
“Yes …yes, you did. What’s the funny story?”
“I didn’t know where you were, but I knew you were close. Then Renee knocked on our door last night and told us all about the room next to ours,” Adrianna was grinning.
