"What do you mean?" Adrian asked over the phone the following morning.
" I'm sorry. I don't think I can make it. I have to cover more shifts today for the days I've been absent " Christy replied over the phone.
The truth was that , she wasn't ready to meet Adrian's mother. She was ready to confirm her thought.
Adrian sighed " I totally understand" his mood changed as he thought of a very interesting idea" then will you make it up to me later?when you are done with your shift ? "
" Adrian -"
"See you later "
The line went beep.
Christy smiled at her phone as she disconnected the call. Turning around she saw Anna who shook her head and instantly stopped smiling.
"You are so in love " Anna teased.
"Who is in love? Me ? " Christy scoffed " hey, stop spouting rubbish early in the morning "
Anna hopped out of the room in her school uniform " yes yes "
Christy followed her and smirked. It was her turn to tease her sister now " who was that guy yesterday at the hospital ?"
Anna paused and turned to face her sister " I fear I do not know what you are talking about "
"Ayyy, don't be -"
"Grandpa , goodmorning " Anna interrupted.
Christy turned around to look at Grandpa but she should had known better. It was a trick from Anna to distract her so that she could runaway.
But few minutes later, grandpa walked in with Grandma.
Christy ran towards them to hold grandma and help her into the house.
She placed grandma on the couch.
"Aren't you supposed to be at work yet ?" Grandpa asked.
" I was waiting for you to come home before I leave "
Grandma looked around "what of Anna ?"
"She just left for school. I'll be going now. Take care. "
" Okay "
Christy rushed out. It would take 10 minutes to get to the bustop, 5minutes to get to the store. In conclusion she would be at least 20 minutes later than she already is-
Her thoughts were interrupted by a voice. " Get in "
She looked up and saw Adrian in his car Infront of her house and couldn't help but smile.
It was so amazing, so mind-blowing how he always showed up when she needed help.
Adrian waited until she evening when she was done working and opened his car door for her.
" Get in "
Christy looked at him. She couldn't believe he'd waited this long " aren't you tired ? We can go where you want sometime else"
Adrian shook his head " I'm not tired so get in "
Christy hopped in his car and he drove off to a park.
They came down and sat on a bench. Adrian handed her some cheese burgers" you must be hungry "
Christy smiled as she took it " thank you " and moaned as she took a bite " it's good "
"Isn't it?"
" Yes " she took another bite.
Adrian didn't know how to bring it up but decided to anyways
"Was there another reason to why you didn't want to have lunch with my mother?"
Christy shook her head hurriedly" not at all . Seriously"
"Then am I still a stranger to you ?"
Christy smiled " No. These last few days had been tough but I could only get through it because of you. I'm really grateful"
Adrian looked at her intently" I know there are still alot of things about me that I haven't told you yet. It's weird how I don't go to work and I'm always around you but I'll tell you everything soon with time. I promise you"
Christy sipped her water " you don't need too"
Adrian shook his head "I need too. Because I like you"
Christy coughed on her water.
" I really like you and I'll tell you everything about me with time. Telling you now might push you away from me "
Christy just stared at him dumbfoundly .
Adrian waved his hand Infront of her " hello, are you still here?"
Christy blinked her eyes "why do you like me ? There's nothing special about me . I'm not educated and I work at a convience store"
"And so what ? I like you because you aren't educated and work at a convience store. I like you because you are you . You fascinate me and most of all , make my heart beat extremely fast. " Adrian paused" it's okay if you need time to think about it but no matter what your answer is I'll still like you "
Christy blinked back her tears. No one had ever confessed to her .
She didn't even think she was someone anyone would want to be with . Afterall, she had nothing to offer.
But here he was , Adrian being the first person to make everything a first for her.
The first person to see her as herself and not an education convience store worker. The first person to make her feel like she wasn't alone. And the first person to make her feel.
She held his hand and breathed out heavily " I like you too"
