Lena stared at her phone, her heart pounding. You’re running out of time.
What the hell did Leo mean by that?
She immediately tried calling back, but the line was dead. Damn it.
A million possibilities ran through her mind, each one worse than the last. If Leo had been reborn too, then he knew what was coming. But instead of explaining, he had left her with a cryptic warning.
Her driver pulled up to her penthouse, and Lena barely registered the elevator ride up. As soon as she stepped inside her home, she tossed her purse onto the couch and grabbed her laptop.
If Leo was right, she needed to move faster. She pulled up the financial records Damien had given her, skimming through every transaction, every inconsistency.
Ethan and Victoria had been planning something big.
But what?
A soft chime echoed through her penthouse, snapping her attention to the security system.
Someone was at the door.
Lena tensed. It was nearly midnight. Who the hell would be visiting her now?
Slowly, she approached the screen displaying the front entrance feed. Her stomach dropped.
Ethan.
Dressed in a dark suit, his expression unreadable, he stood at her doorstep like a ghost from her past.
Lena’s pulse raced. Why was he here? Had he found out what she was doing?
She exhaled slowly, pushing down the flood of emotions rising in her chest. She wasn’t the same woman who had once been desperate for his love.
She pressed the intercom button. “What do you want, Ethan?”
He smirked, tilting his head slightly. “You, Lena. I want you back.”
Lena’s breath caught. Liar. But before she could respond, Ethan’s smirk faded. His eyes darkened.
“And I won’t take no for an answer.”
