Chapter 15: The Trap

252 Words
Lena’s fingers hovered over the intercom button. Ethan wanted her back? Bullshit. If this had been her past life, she might have believed him. She might have let her heart betray her mind. But now? She knew better. She straightened, keeping her voice cold. “That’s funny, Ethan. Last I checked, you threw me away like yesterday’s trash.” Ethan exhaled a soft chuckle. “I made a mistake.” Lena scoffed. A mistake? Was that what he called humiliating her, stealing her company, and leaving her broken while he ran into Victoria’s arms? She clenched her jaw. “Go home, Ethan. We have nothing to talk about.” Silence stretched between them. Then Ethan’s voice dropped lower, smoother. Darker. “Are you sure about that, Lena? Because I think you’ll want to hear what I have to say.” A chill crawled up her spine. What game is he playing now? For a moment, she considered ignoring him. She could turn off the intercom, walk away, and pretend this never happened. But something about the way he spoke… the way he stood outside her door as if he already knew she would let him in… He wasn’t here to beg. He was here because he thought he still had power over her. Lena took a slow breath, steadying herself. Fine. You want to talk? Let’s talk. She pressed the button to unlock the door. Ethan stepped inside, closing the door behind him. And then he smiled. Like he had already won.
