It's Dangerous Around Here

731 Words
She walked from her table and toward the restroom. There was something about her. It was clear that she feared everything. She feared her own shadow, but in that fear, she seemed to still find a way to stand tall. It was almost like she was scared of being scared. She had to stand tall, though she was having an issue standing tall, or standing at all for that matter. It seemed that she was shaking, nearly breaking, but she kept going. She kept walking. She refused to stop, no matter how much I could see that her body wanted to give out on her.               I waited a minute, maybe two, before I followed her. At the time, I didn’t know what was leading me, my wolf or my pride. There was this need to follow her. I needed to follow her, now whether it was because my wolf felt the need to take her or if it was because I needed to prove that the doctor was wrong. I didn’t know the answer to that question, but I had the one that I knew it had to be. She was a human, after all. I didn’t need to remember that my wolf did. My wolf needed to remember that she could not be my mate. She was a human. No, human can be the mate of an Alpha. That was the mantra that I had as I walked toward her. No Human Luna.               I slowed my step as I realized that she had not come out of the bathroom. It was a hard thing to do. I am used to living at my own pace, doing things my own way, but she made me do things her way. She was making me go at her pace. Even when I got to the bathroom, she wasn’t out yet, and I almost stormed inside, but I was able to restrain my wolf and myself.               I waited outside the bathroom for another two or three or five minutes. I honestly lost track of how long I was there waiting for her. She didn’t notice me when she walked out. She bumped right into me. She looked up at me, and it was clear that her eyes were filled with terror. She was worried that I would hurt her, and the truth was that I couldn’t be sure that I wouldn’t. My wolf wanted her in a way that my wolf had never wanted anyone. I had to fight with everything that I had, not to kiss her right there, not to mark her right there, not to rip her clothes off and take her right there.               She looked up at me for a few more seconds before she finally squeaked out, “I’m sorry, sir, I got a little distracted. Please forgive me.”               The waitress looked at me. I had been careful to make sure that it only looked like I was waiting for this human because that was my duty. However, I had to be more cautious and prove that I was still in control over everything. “Watch where you’re going,” I growled at her.               She looked at me for a few seconds. “I’m sorry,” she repeated and then tried to walk away from me. I grabbed her wrist. She grimaced, and I realized that she was probably in a lot of pain. I quickly let go of her wrist. She kept her eyes on her wrist. It looked like she was trying to figure out why. She was trying to rewind history and make it, so it never happened. I had broken some pact that we had made that I didn’t know. It was a societal pact that I did not know or remember. Either way, she knew it, and I had broken it. “If you will excuse me,” she said, trying to walk around me.               “It’s dangerous around here,” I whispered into her ear.               She glared at me for only a moment, and then she laughed and continued to walk away from me. “Yeah, and you seem to be the king of that,” she said under her breath.               “You have no idea,” I said, watching her walk away from me. She didn’t look behind her at me, so I don’t know if she heard what I said.
