Too Much Touching

1994 Words
Oscar “Calm down? My wife is walking away from me and you want me to calm down?” Oscar shouted at his cousin, Prince Yichen who had followed him out of the dinner hall, pulling his forearm out of his loose grip. Katherine was racing down the hall. “Why are you suddenly concerned about her?” “Why? I married her that’s why,” Oscar returned haughtily, feeling his anger rising and he snapped at the middle-aged man, exposing his fangs. His own words sounded incredible to his ears. “Aye,” the prince held both hands up in surrender and backed away, “And what about Nuwa?” “Nuwa? This does not concern her,” he snarled as he walked off with a royal guard behind him. “Doesn’t it? “Get her,” he instructed the guard as he turned back to his cousin. “What transpires between my wife and me is no concern of yours.” Prince Yichen folded his slender arms across his chest, “Actually, it does. She is Queen, your queen, our queen, chosen by you to reign- no?” “Fine, Nuwa does not concern you.” “Oscar, please know what you are doing, for I see our future nation falling because of a greedy foolish ruler,” Yichen hissed as he placed both of his hands into his white trouser pant pocket. “Excuse me?” “I am saying that you married her for a purpose- get it done.” “I am King,” Oscar's raucous voice reminded him. “And my personal choices do not concern you or anyone else- my ruling is final, whether you like it or not.” “All I am saying is-” Oscar did not have time for this unimportant conversation that was beginning to feel like a distraction ad dashed out, in the direction his wife had disappeared in, ignoring Yichen raised voice. His aunt had always been pushing for her own son, Yichen to rule after Drago’s reign. See aunt Fen was the older sister of Drago and was under the impression that she should have been the one to rule, when they were younger; women's rights and whatnot- the whole shebang. So, when her younger brother, King Drago, was chosen by their father instead, she was left bitter- anyone would be truly in her position but the old rules still applied in their kingdom; the first son. Years later, Aunt Fen was happy once more when it looked as if her brother, at almost sixty years old, would not bear his own children with any of his concubines and pushed her brother to choose Yichen as the Crown Prince. But Drago, finally got married and Fen was sorely disappointed again and then yet again when his mother had become pregnant with him and his sister. Fen made her scorn known to them. Since his father never looked his age- the citizens chose to ignore what did not concern them as long as they were safe under their king’s reign and instead, the nation celebrated with their young king and queen when the twin was born. Himself and his sister Alsie. Running with a light-speed Oscar saw the castle guards at the top of the railing looking down. He slowed to a slow walk then, until he saw the guards standing at the staircase entrance, looking down and a dark feeling fell into the atmosphere… no- no. ‘Oh God, she fell over?’ He pushed forward faster and peered over, only to have everything go dark. Oscar stood motionless, unsure of what was happening and then he felt it. His entire chest constricted. Rattled, the young king closed his eyes, blinking a couple of times in confusion and staggered back hearing, “Katherine!” His eyes flew open but he could only see red. Did someone dare to use the queen’s name? Was that Anthony? The closed, pained emotion in his chest, exploded followed by a roaring inside his head. Then he heard a thud- like a body falling and he took a step forward, feeling the sickening sound echoing in his mind. He listened for that was all he could do and he heard gasps around- ahead of him. Then heartbeats, then one specific one- Katherine’s. She was frightened but alive. Her heart was pumping like a freight train. Sensing her pain, but knowing no bones were broken, he rushed head-on blindly, to have his vision returned then just as he reached the stairway and he ran down, past his guards, seeing Katherine lying on the wooden steps but being picked up by Anthony. He could feel the rage inside him. "No, no, no Katherine,” he heard his guard, who was holding his wife mumbling followed by her low moan then, "My Queen,” from Anthony again. The pain was felt in his chest again. Didn’t he warn his guard about using her name previously? He shouted out something before he reached them. Ju and Anthony looked up at the king then with terrified expressions, waiting for him to reach them. Ju ‘oofed’, when he pulled Katherine away from Anthony, for he had spun around so swiftly that she was almost knocked over. He did not have time to play nice at the moment and turned back to head up to his wife’s quarters. “Get the doctor,” he shouted at the guards who were still staring at them. “Mage, follow me,” he commanded. At the top of the railing, he glared down at Anthony who had not moved, as he turned to the hall again. Twenty minutes later, Oscar was still glaring at the doctor who had just finished bandaging, Katherine’s ankle. He had checked it out while she was unconscious and was saying to Oscar step by step everything that he was doing but Oscar kept watching his hands on his wife’s naked foot. Two useless nurses were at either side of the bed just handing him things he called for. Why couldn’t they be the ones examining her instead? Knowing Katherine came awake while he was wrapping her up, fueled his anger even more. What is with her and doctors and pretending to sleep? He almost wanted to throw her off the bed but knowing that would only cause more damage and the same doctor would have to touch her again, while the other two stooges looked on, was the only thing that prevented him from actually doing so. They walked to the room entrance where he saw the two female servants sitting looking nervously around as if somehow it was their fault, it probably was for all he knew- “Where were you when the queen fell?” he barked at them. Both were startled by his sudden threatening question that their knees shook when they stood up, lowering their heads. “Your Majesty, we apologize. We- were in here- in the- uh, sitting area and the recreation- room,” the shorter one stammered, head still lowered. “Nothing is broken or sprained, it’s just a bit strained, so she has to avoid strenuous exercise such as running or er- heels for the next week or so,” the doctor butted in and Oscar glared at him. Of course, he knew this. He had been there when he was examining her. “Tell her that,” Oscar said to the old man, who had been the doctor for the Royals as far as his memory could go back, and he looked over to the bed huffing. He obviously did not want the man near her again, Oscar hoped he understood that without him having to actually say it. He disliked dense thinking people and preferred when they were vigilant like Anthony, who understood that he did not want him following behind, with just one look. Katherine was sulking on the bed, looking at the television screen but he knew she was listening to the doctor and not what her eyes were looking at. What is it with her and pretending to sleep? The mage had just left after seeing to it that the doctor had some of the concoction, she had personally brewed. Yes, traces of Oscar’s blood are in the medication Katherine was just administered. "I think we're going to see a new influx of people to agriculture. Agriculture has been aging for a while, and it hasn't been aging particularly well.” Oscar looked to the screen that she was pretending to watch. An English man was on the screen showing his greenhouses and talking about machines that took care of the plants. Ah, it was also something he had been working on. Farming of the future with Ai robots. He kept seeing her lips... so close to him. He kept wanting to kiss her since… why had she pulled away? Of course, she hated his guts, he knew but still. He was appealing to all- everyone wanted him…from men to women. …okay so maybe not all. But he could make them want him with his smoldering looks- which is what he was attempting at dinner when she ran out. Not important right now. Just then an announcement started outside by one of the guards after a loud knock. "Prince Lichen, Princess Fen, Princess Amelia-" Prince Lichen came rushing in then, past the outer room and past him by the entrance, with some of his other relatives- mostly by law and he glared at them all. They were probably hoping she would die so he could marry Nuwa and give up the throne. He did not even want to think about the details of how that would work for them. “Goodness,” his aunt, Princess Fen said breathlessly as she rushed in and straight to Katherine, holding her hand. Oscar sneered his mouth, seeing his aunt sitting on his wife’s bed. His aunt was so pretentious as if Katherine was stupid to- Kat smiled warmly at the woman, covering her hand with the other. “Aunty Fen-” ‘Aunty Fen? So, she is indeed stupid.’ “Oh, no I’m alright, I tripped over the step. Silly me,” Katherine laughed and Oscar stared. Since when had his wife become close with…her or all people. Fen was a snake. Two others in their thirties, both females, turned back looking at him and he could see the pretentious attitude in them as they placed a fake smile upon their pretty made-up faces and turned back to Katherine. Little Shancai, he noticed was missing. He knew Katherine had taken a big sister role in her life, he had seen then a few times chatting away at the table and twice out in the hall. Lichen stood next to his mother, looking down at Katherine. Then he did the unthinkable and reached out and patted her hand. The doctor who was still next to him looking on, stepped forward to go pacify the small crowd but Oscar beat him to it. He grabbed his cousin’s hand and flung it aside before glaring at him. “How dare to put your hands on my wife!” It was rhetorical. Oscar did not have to look at his startled relatives to know they were giving him weird looks while he stared at his loose wife. “What the f*ck is wrong with you?” he hissed out at her. “Seriously Oscar-” Lichen began saying but he lowered his head when the king transferred his scorned gaze to him. “No touching,” he snarled at the sight of his other relative petting Kat’s hair as if comforting her while they all stared at him. Ting dropped her hand immediately, the smile on her lips quivering. He was so mad right now with Katherine. How dare she let another man touch her. He needed to speak with his guard this minute.
