“What do you mean? I die now?” Kat heard the catch in her breath as the words sounded out. She might not know much but she knew that a vampire draining her blood, would mean death. Couldn’t he kill a rabbit, deer or something?
Nuwa- no wait, she will not die. Nuwa is alive! She felt some sort of relief with that but still, her chin quivered and her saucer-sized eyes showed her fright.
Oscar did not smirk but replied in a humorous tone. “How can I ever kill you, Kat? You’re my wife.” She could feel his warm breath on her face.
‘He has a sick sense of humor.’
“Why- why do-” she stuttered out. As far back as she could recall, Kat had never stuttered but since having Oscar in her adult life, she did it a lot it seemed.
“Simple. I’m a vampire and what do I need? Would you have me take someone else’s?”
She easily pulled herself out of his grip when his gaze dropped down to her neck- maybe he allowed her to- for the situation must be a comical one to him. Kat knew he was thinking of sinking his teeth in by the way his mouth twitched up on one side a bit. After all, he unquestionably was the carnivore in this situation- her the meek deer. Was he listening to her pulse? Her heartbeats? He had to know she was frightened right? A vampire could smell fear- wait, could he really?
Walking to the window, she looked from her window, the concrete jungle beneath was a beautiful sight. The people were tiny as they walked around, some hurried some not. Although the sun had set the environment was still busy with family life. The huge brightly lit park that they had walked around in silence, earlier, was a breathtaking view, every parent’s ideal environment for their kids to feel safe. A security officer patrolled the area while two others remained near the entry of the car park that was near the shopping mall.
A few dogs were being walked and baby prams were in abundance. Loud music could be heard but not in a booming way. Balloons were in almost every child’s hand when they left as they were free- one for each child. Kat knew this, for this was where her mother used to take her when she was little. She had loved the Poui trees when they blossomed for the yellow used to be her favorite color. Both yellow and pink were a sight when in full bloom.
An even prettier sight was when the leaves fell off and scattered the ground- a beautiful pink and yellow playfield.
That was why her mother had chosen this particular apartment building for Kat. She loved it and had been sad when her mother had remarried and they had moved. Kat’s thoughts were jumbled and she felt there was a nagging inside her mind but a bigger fear was behind her.
The hoodie-wearing -vampire-king stood behind her silently but Kat could feel his body’s heat. Just why- how does a vampire have bodily heat? He pulled her scrunchie off her hand and gathered her hair clumsily at the nape of her neck before wrapping the band around it.
Kat’s body broke out in more tremors. He was moving her hair out of his way. This is what she signed up for however and tried her best to concentrate on the sight on the ground floor.
She could see by the parents and children’s movements that they were happy, although she could not see their faces or hear their sounds from up here. And despite the joy and the hot weather outside of the tropical region, Kat trembled inside her apartment.
“Should I?” she heard behind her as hands gripped her arms firmly, so this time she couldn’t move. He was asking her if he should attack someone else- his earlier question. She wanted to say yes, but she could not allow someone else to pay the price of her mistake. She should keep her part of the deal…
‘Where does myth end and reality begin.’
“N- no,” Kat could feel his body’s warmth as he stood so directly, almost touching her.
“So, you are willing?” he leaned in closer so that their bodies could feel each other, through the material of their sweaters. His sweaters.
“No!” Kat whispered hoarsely closing her eyes, holding her body stiffly as best as she could, feeling the blood running through her veins now- she was that scared. But not like before when she thought earlier that he was about to murder her.
‘Too close, too close. Why is his body so heated? Aren’t vampires cold-blooded or something like that?’
“Forget everything you think you know…” his words came back to her.
“What then I should go down to reception?” Oscar still spoke in hushed tones although they were alone. It was a skill he had, to make her feel his menace without being loud. When she gave no reply, his grip slackened and Kat shrieked out loud, her eyes flying open, partially scared for this stranger- this other being, he would hurt and the other from feeling clustered, “I can’t breathe.”
He released one of her arms and opened the window letting in the early night air before his grip was back on her arm, again. Kat closed her eyes once more as if she could will him away. She was so terrified that she couldn’t move, even if she wanted to. A few seconds passed without any movement or words from either of them when suddenly she felt his moist warm tongue, slide slowly across the curve of her neck, where the neck and shoulder met.
Her stomach gives a lurch before it drops to the floor.
The sensations rocked Kat instantly and her eyes flew open, staring unseeingly, through the opened window but Oscar didn’t stop. He continued on with his sweet assault and Kat squeezed her hands into balls by her side waiting for the pain.
“Katherine,” she heard and her body answered on its own. Her left hand came up and cupped the back of his neck, encouraging him on while her mouth betrayed her. If Kat hadn’t heard it herself, she would have said it was a lie.
Oscar’s right hand came up and covered her bre*st but doing nothing more than rubbing his huge palm over it gently. Her heavy lids slowly closed again. When did he release her from his prison grip? Still, Kat felt like her brain was leaking- maybe it was her common sense leaving, for she felt herself turning in his arms, and angling her head better for him.
His lips moved to the front of her neck and Kat heard herself moan again. Both her hands were now on either side of his chest but gripping his hoodie jacket and he grabbed her waist firmly with one hand while the other rested on the opposite side of her neck where his mouth still caressed, just below her cheekbone. His thumb was pushing her chin up and his mouth left its attack.
She opened her eyes and violet eyes met his gray eyes. A raw hunger was seen by both but when Oscar lowered his handsome face to hers Kat turned away. No- this had to be a dream. This could not be real she told herself. She despised him and he, her. Just when Kat thought her rational thinking had returned, this happens?
No way. Was she still in Demkas? Was she asleep there? Was she in a coma or so drugged up she was having delusions about this vile monster?
But it wasn’t a dream for Kat felt the burning on her neck then and knew Oscar had bitten her. Her eyes widened with shock and she sucked in a harsh breath, going on her tiptoes. His teeth had been so sharp that she hadn’t felt when the intrusion took place but she knew the burning was the effect of her blood being drawn. Yes, Kat had donated blood and had also done bloodwork too, so she knew the feeling.
Oscar had this well planned, she realized. To get her distracted so he could violate her- did he do this with others- Nuwa? Her eyes opened more with that thought. The woman had to go through this trauma…when- daily? Kat’s eyes squinted…what trauma exactly? If this is what she had to face before she was bitten then she was certain the woman purred every time.
Yes, Kat was convinced the cocky woman enjoyed every second. After all, she is his girlfriend and Oscar did say he loved her. They loved each other.
Euphoria joined in then and drowsiness washed over Kat but not the sleepy kind. Her insides seemed to be singing as Oscar sucked on. His hands now on the back of her head and the other on her upper back, as if holding up her weight for Kat could not feel her legs. She wasn’t even sure if she had legs and she didn’t care to think about the horror of being legless.
Instead, Kat dwelled in the sensational pull that came from where Oscar’s lips were.
