Oscar walked back to the cell and looked at each prisoner that was about to be frozen although their dates for trial were in six months’ time- Oscar did not think he wanted to waste his resources on criminals. Usually, it’s a year plus not under but these vile creatures were grating on his brain cells.
“Get me out- I’m innocent!” one man shouted when the young white long coat wearing doctor walked in with a clipboard, along with another older greying doctor and officer. The younger one, Doctor Xing, called names. While he called, moans and cries of disbelief could be heard as five other assistants came in and three walked to each cell gate that had the criminals’ names on it and stood aside while the special crimes officer opened up the locks.
Nobody moved from their cells but their eyes traveled from the ten heavily armed SC military officers at the entrance to the doctor. three beds were soon rolled in with two other long, white coats on each side who made their way into each cell that an officer stood by.
Oscar looked on as each man succumbed to sleep when masks were placed on their faces. Still, he waited, in case his assistance was needed for these animals were good at pretending and he didn’t want to chance one holding his breath and making a mess of his doctors. They were highly skilled and highly paid too so he did not want to lose them.
Hence the reason he had the prisoners’ names placed in front of their cell gate when they were placed in them to ensure they were exactly who they wanted as sometimes they feigned their identities. Oscar left nothing to chance.
Seeing them inside their enclosed chambers, he left, leaving the highly trained team to finish their jobs-his mind a bit at ease that he removed scum from his streets for the while.
Barely out of the elevator, his phone rang and seeing the caller he slides the answer icon to the left, “Anthony,” he said tonelessly and the Royal Guard’s words had him hurrying to the Queen’s chambers.
Meanwhile
“Now!” Katherine held the knife by the woman’s throat while she searched her shelves. But she knew the mage was playing for she sensed it. Maybe she was being paranoid but she had to get home this instant. They had been playing the search for the potion game a few minutes now and Kat was running out of patience.
Kat needed to get home now. She would have known if she had her phone. Miriam said she had called hundreds of times, sent messages. Everyone tried to get in contact with her. Kat’s eyes flooded with tears- no, not now Kat. Hold it in. Focus on getting home first- emotions after.
Oscar said she was a mage, which meant she was powerful. More than the typical witch… Kat felt insane just thinking about the make-believe stories she grew up with, which were now real. A vampire and a mage- what else?
Besides this Ju looked young enough to have a fully functioning brain with a clear memory…didn’t that mean she was supposed to have memorized this magic thing by now? And even if she was old- because she seemed young to Kat, but if she was older than she looked…wasn’t an older witch supposed to be more prudent? More powerful?
Kat pressed the blade more firmly against the woman’s windpipe, for now, she was frantic- the mage probably sent out an SOS to the vampire by now and he probably was already on his way to her- these crooks.
“I need to get home Now!” she repeated her earlier words, her voice cracking now for she was getting more and more frantic. How hard could it possibly be when she did it for Oscar all the time?
Oh God- Oscar is going to kill her now but she didn’t care much as long as she made it home first.
“I’m looking- ah,” the mage gasped out and grabbed a book of the shelf. See? Kat knew she had been playing. For she had been looking at bottles all the time. The mage struggled with the heavy book and placed it on the lab looking counter carefully for Kat still held the knife at her throat.
“Hurry- do it,” Kat urged her along and the woman opened the book almost three-quarters of the way and used her finger to scroll down the large page before stopping almost halfway down the left page.
“Drink this,” Ju mumbled and Kat saw she held one of the tiny bottles in her hand that had been previously on the shelf. Kat eyed it suspiciously.
“Hurry,” she coaxed but Kat just stared at her sideways, for she was behind the woman now.
“I’m not stupid. I know you would poison me. Read,” she commanded and pointed with the knife at the page, stepping around the woman and standing almost parallel to her.
“It’s to keep you safe.”
“Right.”
“Why would I harm the Queen? The King will behead me.”
Yeah right. Kat doubted that. She felt like Oscar would probably reward the woman for ridding him of her. “Read.”
“Your Majesty- I must insist. You are human. The King uses this and he’s a vampire.”
Kat stilled eyed her and the bottle.
“Please Your Majesty, Take it. The King will be here shortly- hurry. Look if I kill you or even harm you in any way- my King dies. Hence the marriage?”
Kat saw the woman scrutinizing her face and she added, "The merge? …which you know nothing about apparently. Okay. I am helping you, okay?"
Kat looked at the woman who seemed to be not much older than her and shook her head. She couldn’t believe she was doing this but she swallowed the mint flavoring liquid and the mage adjusted her glasses on her head, not even bothering to put them on. “You know that I might be the dead one when the King finds out what I am doing.”
“Well, he won’t,” Kat mumbled, pressing her lips together for she was feeling numb there.
“He won’t? So where did you go, hmm?”
“What was that you gave me?” Kat ignored the woman's stupid question with an important one of her own.
“So, you won’t be back,” the mage rolled her eyes and Kat was surprised by it for nobody ever dared to do that in her presence before. But she went on as if it was the most natural thing in the world, “And I just might be dead- yes? Because this makes sense.” She blew out a long breath, with a flare of her nostrils and sighed, “Water- a different kind. I am helping you for I understand your grief but Your Majesty when you return- you will, please try to make the King understand why-”
“I won’t be back. Read please,” Kat raised the knife again but the mage did a quicker than quick move and Kat saw her holding the knife now. Wide-eyed she stared at her now empty hand then at the blade in the Mage’s.
“Right and I save my neck,” the mage said sarcastically, pursing her lips and she dropped the knife behind her on the counter behind her. Then the mage started chanting.
Kat stared at the woman.
“Cut the air,” the mage instructed and Kat furrowed her eyebrows, “with your hand- just feel it in your body and think back to your place when you swipe,” the mage went on, seeing Kat’s expression and kept her with an eye lock and Kat knew she could trust her. “Use your hand. Yes?” and she demonstrated with her forehand of doing a slanted chop…just as Oscar had done previously with his sharp shiny sword.
Kat blinked without nodding, feeling her body growing hot and soon her hands were in embers. Her eyes widened for a second, she thought the mage had tricked her and was burning her alive but the fire did not burn her. Looking down she saw her entire body was the same and the mage’s chanting grew stronger but not louder.
She got that similar smell- sulphury, like when Oscar had first zapped into her place.
Through her heated gaze Kat saw the woman pull her glasses down then and faced her still chanting but now couldn’t hear what she was saying, for all she heard was fire cackling then she saw the mage nod her head. Kat swiped the air in the same fashion shown to her and an almost blinding flash of white light blinked a few times before everything went black.
Kat felt herself fall. Not from a great height but maybe a few inches. She opened her eyes when her palms touched a surface on impact and she recognized the flooring of her apartment.
‘It worked?’
She almost sobbed with relief. Standing up on shaky legs Kat looked around her living room area slowly- everything was the same but different …ah new apartment she remembered as she walked into the direction of the bedroom. Her old place was the floor below. Just how did Oscar know this was her new place? Did he have her followed again- oh yeah it was Anthony who did the stalking for him.
Who cares? She was home in Armedia.
Looking down herself she saw why Oscar traveled naked, her clothing was burnt to a crisp. Grabbing a clean towel from her cupboard she froze for a large coat that was on her bed- Simon’s. She would recognize it anywhere for she had bought it for him. He had been here? But Kat didn’t have time for thinking now. She tore the clothing off her body and ran into the shower.
