Hello Breakfast

'Definitely underground now.' “What is ‘le majesty’?” she asked him and he almost smiled at her mispronunciation but they weren’t in a laughable situation. “Lese-majeste,” he corrected, “it just means to do wrong to the king or queen. It’s the highest felony against a reigning and actions like this are classified as a criminal offense.” “That’s a high charge for taking a picture.” “Our law is different and you do not know what people are capable of yet. You will be grateful in the future, I am certain. As I was saying, these are hardened criminals here and will never be done to you,” Anthony said as the elevator doors opened, revealing a darker hallway. Empty except for the huge pipelines that ran along the walls. Nobody was in sight and Kat got a feeling then that he didn’t want the other guards to know he had been cautioning her before. 'Why? And why is nobody here?' “Wait what?” she halted her steps when his words took effect. “Now, he wants you to see what happens when people break the law.” “But I didn’t,” Kat stated to his back the same time her nose picked up on a bleach scent. “Not yet my Queen but if you break the contract, you do,” Anthony turned around then and she saw the concern in his eyes. “Your Majesty, please do not break his trust, there is no going back if you do.” How could Oscar know her plans if she hadn’t even spoken about it to anyone? It’s not like she was fifteen and writing in her diary again. “He knows everything even when you don’t.” “How?” “How? He watches you. He can sense your fear.” “That’s impossible,” Kat argued although she knew Oni, Julie, especially Miss Moon, and the other maids and guards were reporting everything to him- even Anthony. But she had been overly cautious. “You Anthony? You spy on me for him?” “I don’t but I will if he asks me to, nobody disobeys the vampire King,” the guard answered honestly and walked ahead before disappearing when he turned right. There he goes again with the vampire talk. Kat ran behind him and saw he had stopped in front of another door. Metal. He raised a hand and placed a finger over his mouth to silence her and whispered, “Be strong,” and opened the door revealing another disinfectant clean, smelling room. She found the smell was similar to that of a hospital and Kat found herself wondering if the castle had a built-in hidden hospital ward. Maybe this is where the royals got their cosmetic surgeries- ah no wonder Oscar was so handsome now. His jawline was too attractive to be real- she knew it! Less than thirty minutes later Kat was looking at her breakfast on the floor. “I swear,” Kat heard the grogginess in the man’s voice and his heavy breathing before she heard him spitting on the floor. She knew it was his own blood from what her eyes had witnessed. He was choking on his own blood! “Ah,” he screamed in agony when another blow connected to his body. Kat heard the impact of fist on flesh and threw up some more. “It wasn’t me man, I just watched. I’m not dirty!” The man was being beaten while chained to a chair, by fists. Oscar, the Royal Guard Yeon and three others were in there with him. She had been forced to watch them, minus Oscar beat the man to a bloody pulp. His face was swollen to the point of unrecognition. His flesh was bruised and open. The blow that made her stomach contents and the floor meet was the wood that was dealt across the man’s legs. The sound of the bone connecting with the thick object shot through her head and down her entire being- mostly her weak stomach, however. Kat along with Anthony and four others were in a separate room looking on. A woman in her thirties and two other men, wearing suits, were looking on. And another royal guard who was there to make sure Kat ‘looked on’. They assured her that the man cannot see them although he did look at the glass separating them a few times. “Did you even think of your family? How your kids will think? How their friends will treat them now? Your wife? The shame of having you as her husband?” she heard the sound of Oscar’s angered voice asking the man. “My Queen, please raise your head. The King has ordered you watch this,” Kat heard for the second time since he had been in the room but kept her head bent, for she doubted the guard would force her head up. Kat saw a towel in front of her face and grabbed it, wiping away the filth before straightening up to look out of the glass window into the room, again. The man stopped fidgeting then and stared at her evilly and Kat gasped almost choking and she fell off her chair, spilling more of her food. “Is she watching me right now? What did you tell them you b*tch!” “He can see me,” she wailed. “He’ll kill me and I didn’t do anything!” “God, she can’t take anymore,” she heard the female detective’s voice next to her and was set back onto the chair. Kat kept her eyes closed this time for she couldn’t bear it again. “I promise you that he can’t,” she heard a male voice replying to her statement. “You think she’s back there?” Kat heard Yeon’s voice asking the man and another struggle was heard. Why couldn’t the man just say what he needed to say and prevent all this? “Imagine what she told us,” Yeon egged him on and Kat heard the sounds of chains as the blood-stained man, struggled again. “Anthony!” Kat heard the woman pleading again for her to be taken away. “I can’t, as much as I want to,” she heard the remorse in the guard’s voice followed by the creaking of the door behind them. When a custodian-dressed woman walked in, rolling in a yellow pail bucket and mop, Kat understood why the place was so clean smelling when the woman started to scoop up her stomach contents. Why the place had no blood or rotted smell- why it reminded her of the hospital. The floors and walls were disinfected when they tortured. No wonder nobody knew of here- even if it was found, nothing would be proven- she gagged and heaved again. Even if found…Oscar is king. He would just dismiss and just the persons to …what did Anthony call it? She closed her eyes… Lese-majeste. A.K.A jail time for such individuals. The woman started mopping up just when she heard, “Dear wife, I hope you are paying attention,” Oscar mocked her and Kat opened her eyes for she was beyond petrified of the man she married now. He was still standing in a corner looking on as Yeon dealt the blows. But he was looking at her through the glass- the glass they stated was tinted and a one-way see-through, until the overhead light was switched on. “You b*tch!” the man in the chair screamed, for he must have thought his wife was really back there giving away his secrets. Oscar had chosen his words wisely, Kat understood then although she knew of the double meaning to them. Oscar was really speaking to her. Kat saw Oscar raising his hand up and Yeon, covered in blood, stopped and backed away heaving. Clearly tormenting someone took a lot of energy from someone. Kat detested Yeon now and Oscar even more. How could she be so ill-fated to marry this man? Money. Money was the root of all evil. Look at what she had ended up in because of money troubles. What was her other choice- let her father die? Tears blinded her as they ran down her cheeks and someone wiped them away with a warm damp soft cloth. Then her eyes were patted dry before fresh new tears gathered and took their place. A feather-light tug was felt on her nose followed by a soft female voice, “Blow.” Kat did and the person wiped and moved back. Looking through the wide glassed frame, that occupied almost half of the wall she saw Oscar looking at her before he smirked. “You said he can’t see me,” Kat choked out and nobody bothered with a reply, for they all knew what was coming next when someone didn’t talk. The king made them. Oscar’s smirk changed into something more sinister and Kat fainted.
