[Get these wild thoughts out of your head, dear Katherine, it’s- how you say er… silly? Yes, I am learning your way of speaking.]
‘I think he’s attractive, you don’t see me dogging on Oscar. Btw, great, you talk so anciently.’
While she said that to Lilith however, a chill began its way up her spine… Why was the firebird copying her? Was it innocent in just coming up to the times or another reason? Nonetheless, she blocked it out for now.
The royal guard was at the end of the hallway, nevertheless, her phoenix hearing was quite sharp- deity, according to Lilith and two other guards were behind him if her hearing was correct. The heavy steps of the men and their breathing- frightening to her, she winced not accustomed to such abilities; gave her a distance to work with.
Excited as she was that Anthony is on his way, Katherine made Lilith understand that it freaked her out and to never do that again, unless necessary.
[Something is up]
“What is she saying to you?” she heard Ju’s somewhat shaky voice but ignored her as she bent her head, the high-pitched sound causing her to wince outwardly again.
“Are you okay?”
“She’s fine,” Lilith screeched and Ju reared back in her seat, fright written on her facial features.
“He’s- not- where is Oscar?” Lilith directed at the mage who held her hands out open palmed but downwards, to her sides. “I’ve been here all along.”
“Call him,” Lilith demanded.
Ju stuttered, in her fright, “Ca- call- I-”
Katherine’s chest heaved and she tried to calm the firebird, raising her hand up, palm towards the mage to indicate to her she had it under control. ‘Stop it. You know she can’t just call the kin-‘
[I only know what you know and you know that. She could be lying to you]
‘Nobody’s lying to me or you. He’s king, he’s busy. Even if she does call, she has to make an appointment. I trust her and minutes ago, so did you.’
Hearing the announcement, Ju rushed to her feet immediately and the firebird’s calm almost startled her just as her stomach did a flip when the door opened and the royal guard stepped in. Kat, stood up just as the most attractive human male specimen walked in, dressed in all deep charcoal. She hadn’t feasted her greedy eyes on him in weeks and her heart was threatening to pump out of her chest at the moment.
[Ugh, to you probably]
His eyes captured hers and neither of them noticed the servants that came in with him, nor when they cleared the table away. His eyes slanted and squinted a bit as a furrow appeared on his forehead, high lightening a slight scar on one eyebrow- a childhood scar perhaps or maybe the tiny s***h was achieved in battle- which made it even more attractive, to her.
Ju, hesitantly walked to the royal guard’s side, her eyes on Katherine but he didn’t notice her until she stood in front of him, and even then, she had to wave her hand in front of his face. “Anthony! Is Eric back?”
[I told you we couldn’t trust her]
‘His eyes are so dreamy.’
“I need to see the king,” she was saying, wringing her hands when Katherine’s hearing came back on. “We, I mean.”
[She’s asking for the king, oh-ma-gosh. We get to see Oscar]
“Is something the matter?” the calmness of the guard, in Ju’s very palpable panicked state, showed how trained he was to deal with situations of discomfort.
[Ugh, this is the guy that captured you, bringing you here. You’re supposed to loathe him] Lilith reminded her and Katherine shook her head as reality set in. Of course, he is but still, ‘According to you I belong here, don’t I?’
She could sense Lilith was searching for something- she could feel it almost, the adrenaline.
‘I have come to accept my reality, bird.’
[Such a hypocrite in more ways than one- aren’t you in love with Simon?]
‘Pch, first you are complaining that Ju wants to take the information she just learned from me to the king but you’re overjoyed to see him? You’re one to talk.’
[I told you- baby love with the book author- a girlish fantasy. Hah- ancient as I am and even I, know this. I told you I know your true feelings]
‘Yea? Well, I must have had a girlish crush on Simon but don’t insult me. I am not attracted to Oscar. And look at you all calm and friendly now and just seconds ago you had mayhem on your mind.’
[I know- this lowly ranked- wait, something is different in his aura]
The maids left and the doors were closed behind them, silently. Katherine heard Ju saying a meeting was needed with them all. Having no idea what that even meant, she sat back down, unaware that she had stood up when Anthony’s eyes broke contact with hers to give his attention to Ju.
[He’s not what you think]
‘What do you mean?’
Katherine’s eyes never left the man’s handsome face and Lilith sniffed noisily, her head tilting then doing a sort of weird twist that had Katherine’s eyes widening when Anthony’s head reared back, looking at her movements.
[He’s-]
“Yeah, that’s what we need to discuss. Is he busy now?” Ju looked back at the table to see what had the man sucking in his breath and explained. “Eh, emergency?”
‘Knighted? The guards said Sir.’
Anthony didn’t race out of the room but simply pulled his cell phone out and dialled, a stricken expression on his face as he watched both Katherine and Ju.
[No, that’s not it. He’s like my mate]
“What?”
Ju and Anthony jumped at her sudden outburst and the mage stepped back behind the royal guard a bit. “Yes, she’s been doing that. It’s the phoenix,” Ju whispers harshly and Anthony stared at her hanging up the phone. “It’s here.”
“The what? When? Does the king know- sh*t!” Anthony pressed redial, placing the cell phone back up against his face, a worrisome expression growing on his features.
[She thinks you will harm her. Why?]
‘Because you scared her with your-‘
“What do you mean he’s like Oscar?” Katherine asked Lilith feeling the anxiety rising on the inside. Lilith threw her hand forward, fingers loosely open, in the direction of the other two people on the opposite side of the table and her voice said, “Vampire.”
