Jake Wei- the lonely grave

1600 Words
Her dream Katherine had been swinging near a calm lake when the sounds of hooves were heard. But she was waiting for him. She spun around and saw the royal guard on a huge white horse galloping her way. Jumping down, she ran to meet the tall man as he jumped off the animal's back, landing on the dry dirt next to her. Then Anthony had looked into her face, giving her a lopsided smile- one, she had never actually seen him do but still, he was taking her breath away in this fantasy nevertheless. One of his hands came up and tucked her loose hair behind one of her ears, cupping her head and pulling her toward him at the same time. His head lowered and Kat's eyes closed as his lips came down on hers. Her stomach grew warm as he gently moved their mouths together and Kat grabbed the front of his green jacket to steady herself for her knees were turning to jelly. While Kat had dreamt of the royal guard this way before in more vulgar situations too, somehow his lips just felt...righter. His scent- so musky- so, hmm- familiar. He moaned, deepening the intimacy, wrapping his other arm around her back as he crushed himself to her. Kat's breathing became irregular and suddenly her legs were around his waist and her body seemed to move in a way she never even dreamt of before. His lips worked their way down to her neck and Kat heard the sounds that came from her throat. Familiar sounds. Not thinking much of it, her hands encircled the royal guard's neck as she encouraged him on.  "Katherine," she heard him moan out and she hissed in a breath. The sound was so beautiful to her ears. She remembered when he had called her the first time in the castle's garage and when she had fallen down the staircase...her tongue darted out and licked his neck.  "Hmm, say my name again," she quavered out before her mouth focused on his neck too. "Katherine?" "Hmm, yess," she hissed along his neck as her teeth bit down gently onto him- suddenly a sharp pain was felt on her neck and she froze when the pain hit, starting with a dull ache. NO- Kat's eyes open and she pushed away from Anthony, looking about her. She was back at the same horrible house, standing in front of the porch. The atmosphere turned cold and darkness descended upon them just as quickly. She felt it- him...the vampire- his presence. Turning back to warn Anthony, her eyes grew wide when she saw not him but Oscar standing where the guard previously stood. Hooded eyes and blood dripping down one side of his mouth- very sexy when she had looked at vampire diaries but this wasn't a tv series; so, she was beyond terrified. Kat grabbed her neck then, looking down in horror at her bloodied hand that she held open-palmed as she wiggled her fingers, and screamed. The vampire frowned as if taken by surprise and reached a hand forward to her but Kat stumbled back falling over hard, flat on her butt- on the hardwood floor? Then a sharp sound of something falling was heard and a bright light illuminated her surroundings. Kat blinked, closing her eyes against the sudden brightness. "Katherine," she heard and was forced to look up. There stood Oscar- with blood on the corners of his mouth and chin. Her blood. Her stomach lurched. She had fallen off the recliner. It was not a dream after all. She had somehow fused her reality with her dream, it seemed. Remembering how she had been writhing in his arms earlier thinking of his guard, her face filled with another type of horror. ‘Did I say his name?’ Did she call him Anthony by any chance? Oh, God. He might kill the man and then return for her head! She scratched her face unconsciously, dropping one hand to her mouth and gnawed at the nail of her thumb finger. Her eyes fell on his cell phone that was on the floor. So that was the object that had fallen down when- “Katherine,” she heard Oscar say huskily. “Get out!” she screeched.   The following day “I am not your friend,” Anthony muttered later that day as they stood in front of a visibly uncared-for tombstone. She could see some scribblings on it but could not make out the words clearly. Yeon and the other four royal guards stood a good distance back, with hands clasped in front of them, looking on. Kat who had been wearing mostly dark-colored clothing, since her father’s death- Michael Turner that is, raised her black-veiled lace from over her face to look up at him. “What?” she mumbled not taking his words into her mind too much for she had been full of thoughts about the man whose grave stood before her. She felt disheartened at the sight of the overgrown weed and moss that covered it. Although from what she read from the case file and the extra file, the man seemed to not have cared about her at all…but he is dead. “Yesterday you said you thought I was your friend. I am not,” he repeated in an almost hushed tone, driving his words home. Katherine stared at him, dumbfounded. Why was he saying this to her- to hurt her? To push her away? She knew he had affections for her- didn’t he? Had it been one-sided after all? This was not important- she kicked Oscar out of her mind as the memory of waking up to him in the wee hours of this morning started creeping into her mind. She was terrified of that demon and had remained awake the following two hours until the maids had knocked. Anthony was also staring at her neck, which was covered by an Italian silk, brown-colored scarf. He knew what was beneath it. Katherine was not sure if to feel ashamed that she had been bitten forcibly by the vampire-king and it was seen by the man that occupied her love fantasies or that the same man obeyed and called the man that bit her- king. Or if to feel just plain old ashamed that she was bitten and everyone knew. Maybe just the thought that she might have called Oscar Anthony- she doubted for he was nowhere in sight and the royal guard was alive. Her cheeks, burned in her anger and embarrassment…she was bitten for the third time…by a vampire. Kat’s eyes grew teary and she saw the royal guard turn away. He pitied her...Kat felt mortified that she was now dressing like Oscar's girlfriend. ‘This is why the woman he slept with wore scarves.’ “Was my mother arrested?” she said bravely, clearing her throat of all emotion. “Uh- yes.” She nodded her head, “A DNA test done?” “I’ll have the guards clear the stone for you. Let us return another day,” he swiftly changed the topic as he straightened his already erect back. “Give me a few minutes please,” she said softly and he turned away to join the others. She needed to greet the man she had erased from her memory. She needed to apologize on behalf of her mother for his death- unjust or not. Kat felt no guilt towards his death but she shared his loneliness. They were both alone- him in his unvisited grave and her in her general life. She somehow felt that her mother had to have a solid reason for this murder that took place. If it had indeed been her. She might have been framed and the police had the wrong name. Maybe they had the correct person but the wrong name? Anthony had avoided her question just now- so maybe they had really arrested her mother when she had vanished those years ago. If indeed they had- she was innocent, Kat was almost certain about it. Her mind is so conflicted at the moment- she needed to speak with Oscar about this.  Kat needed to find her grandparents. She heard a commotion behind her but ignored it. Her hands were gently grabbed and she looked up at Yeon. She could not make up her mind if she liked this man or not. “My Queen,” he gasped out, wide-eyed and Kat looked down to her hands that were still in his. Both wore delicate white gloves. Kat saw her gloved hands were lightly marred with the green weeds. She had been pulling at the weeds that grew over the headstone. Yeon patted them away and stepped back, giving her a tight-lipped smile, he bowed his head slightly then held out a kerchief for her. Was she crying? She wiped at her cheeks but Yeon smiled then- a genuine one and using his eyes indicated her hands. Oh- she smiled back and dusted away. Yeon was not really permitted to touch her, unless in emergency cases. Oni had told her the story of a queen from a kingdom that had died along with the king’s child for the guards were forbidden to touch her. “She drowned,” the teen had tsk, shaking her head. Kat had been horrified with that news. “No, Your Majesty, the royal guards are allowed to save you if you are in any sort of peril,” she had assured Kat when she saw her stricken face.
