Finding for the truth

chapter 6: legend of pinewood

the forest was clustered with pine trees. it looked as dark as pitch. the legend was known to almost everyone. even kate and Ella was aware of it. the legend is that 'once there lived three powerful creatures. the grisly bear, fearless wolf and the mighty eagle. they were so powerful that nature couldn't decide whom to make the king of the forest. they fought every time competing for becoming the king of the forest. this angered mother nature and she cursed them and they turned into statues and could never be the king. the throne was given to the lion then'. some believe that every full moon, nature gives them mercy and frees them only for that day. and they wake-up and continue to fight tremendously'.

"I think we should rest here". kate smiled fakely.

"it's just a legend. and besides, it's not full moon today". Ella was scared but she was trying to conceal.

kate pointed up and mumbled which Ella couldn't hear properly. "it is". the moon was covered by clouds only a glimpse of it was visible.

"it's just a legend for kids to make them have their food". Ella showed bravery and dragged her into the forest.

but kate knew Ella wasn't sure about herself. it was darker inside. nothing could be seen. so, Ella lit a fire using stones and into a piece of wood. kate held her basket tight with one hand and with the other she held Ella's hand. they walked between pine trees. after walking a long distance they came to an open area where the pines were cleared in small extend. there stood a statue of three animals. the bear at the bottom, the wolf at the middle and the eagle at the top. they recognised the statue and decided to move away from that spot as it wasn't safe. when they disappeared back to the cluster of pines they heard a faint shriek. kate looked at Ella for an explanation. "it's a forest, so we will be expecting more of creepy sounds. it's probably a wolf".

"the wolf from the legend?"

"no..off course not...a normal one". Ella stammered and then she whispered under her breath. "probably".

the shriek was heard again. this time near. then they suddenly saw something flew away above them. Ella shouted, "it's the mighty eagle" and started to run leaving kate behind. then kate caught her hand and pointed up. Ella realised it was a night owl!

the serious look of kate changed. she started to burst out waves of laughter. then the next thing was unbelievable. she continued to laugh so loudly that all the night 'guards' were flying away. "you should have seen your face". she told. Ella started to laugh by seeing her face too.

but the movement was taken aback when they heard three totally different sound. they immediately recognised it was non-other than the fierce creatures; the grisly bear, fearless wolf and the mighty eagle. they were free as promised by nature. their strong noises woke up the foresters from their beauty sleeps. the moon was now glowing as the clouds moved away.

"This is bad. really bad". Ella murmured.

"run for your life!" they started to run.

soon the animals started to come towards them. it's because they were holding the fire and which made the animals curious. Ella blew off the fire in order to not catch attention. but yet again they were late. the animals were as fast as lightning. they flew and ran until they surrounded them in three directions. they seized at once but they slipt down and escaped but Ella was a-second late. the bear was able to scratch her neck sideways.

She fell down and started to bleed badly. Kate didn't know what to do. the next thing kate knew was she had to rescue her and that too in a fraction of second. but how? her mind raced rapidly creating an uncomfortable vibes inside her adrenaline. as the seconds passed the situation started to grow worse. the wolf was now going for another scratch. kate started to break down to cold sweat. it felt like the longest second.

 that's when a glow hit the animals making them run for their lives. the animals probably raced for a better arena. the glow was none other than fire! the animals were scared of fire. but where did it come from? Ella's mouth hung open. so did kate'. the move was made by her yet she could not believe what just happened. but the astonishing movement had to wait. Ella's condition mattered first. kate spotted the way out of the forest. they were able to cross the pinewood but at a cost.

 kate dragged Ella by her shoulder and out of the forest. Ella breathed heavy. she began to lose hope of survival. she began her last words thinking she might die soon. "kate, I know I will die but before that, I want to tell you that don't return back. complete your quest and find my identity till then I can't rest in peace". she started to speak hurriedly as if she was gonna die now.

"Stop it you silly, it's just a scratch". kate yelled.

"no, let me continue, don't search for medicine to heal me. forgive me if I ever did any harm to you. and remember i-" her lecture faded away when a light glowed. the light was from the pendant. it glowed brighter every second until the light was unbearable. they closed their eyes and waited until it the light blew out. when they opened their eyes, to their surprise Ella was healed. they gasped. this whole glow thing was driving them insane. 

"since when did we get powers?" kate asked.

"I have no idea". she felt blank. "I will get insane if one more glow thing happens".

"I think we need a night of beauty sleep. maybe we are hallucinating. this all doesn't make any sense". kate was confused.

Ella was able to walk now. but they had to rest now. after all the glow things they were a lot tired and hungry. they walked towards melody following the map. this place isn't safe anymore they thought. their legs started to ache. but the aching went away when they took a glimpse of Melody. a smile spread across their face. they could see the lanterns brightening up the night. they hurried towards it. and realised it is the marketplace of melody.
