chapter 8: the stone gargen

"The Stone garden, it's right here!" Ella shouted with excitement as she ran and tripped over a rock but found her balance shortly before touching the ground.
"careful Ella," Louis instructed.
"Thanks for bringing us here Louis". kate appretiated.
"no problem. Sophia asked me in the letter to bring you, girls, here". Louis said.
kate raced behind Ella to enjoy the view. it's so beautiful. the lake's water is crystal pure that shone brightly under the sunlight. the lake is surrounded by pebbles and stones of Marble. the special thing about the lake is that it was the place where the boy took away their powers and brought an end to war and welcomed peace.
"kate and Ella, it was nice meeting you both. I hope now you can find your way to pillinex. I am sorry I can't accompany you. I have a shop and a son to take care of". Louis said.
"you have a son!" Ella was shocked. kate stepped her foot and changed the topic." it's ok we will find our way out".
"yes, I do. he is 12 and he is in his alma mater. he will be back tomorrow since it is weekend". Louis smiled.
"where is your wife?" Ella asked.
"she is a siren. she left us and went away". Louis looked sad.
"I am so sorry". Ella apologized.
"it's ok. have a good day. and wait..i sort of, have a letter for Sophia". Louis took out a letter from his pocket and handed kate since she had a basket. kate placed it carefully and bade goodbye from him and went on their own. kate stood still admiring the beauty while Ella rushed from side to side interrupted by a butterfly or sometimes sparrow or squirrels. it felt like a cinematic life. kate was taken aback from enjoying the movement when she recalled shinex. there was no clue what was waiting for them. what shinex looked like and most importantly..how are they going to face KRYPTON.
she lost the interest to think further when she heard a melodious tune. she looked to the side to find out a boy playing the flute. she approached beside and sat near him keeping a distance. the notes were so melodious that it felt like there is no sorrow no sadness. only happiness could be the word. the soft breeze blew her hair. but the movement was gone when he stopped playing the Flute. he looked at her surprisingly, it would be first when someone enjoyed his notes. he immediately got up and put his hand forward for a handshake, "Nice to meet you, kate. how were my notes?"
"amazing," kate complimented and shook back his hand. "nice to meet you too. wait..how do you know my name?".
"uh...I am sorry but I couldn't help overhear your conversation". he felt embarrassed. "by the way name's Mark". now he sat beside her.
"you naughty little spy". kate laughed. now he took a seat next to her.
"ouch," kate shouted in pain.
"what's wrong?" he was confused.
"my hair". she pointed and furrowed her brows. he sat on her long silky hair. he moved away immediately apologising. Ella then joined in. she sat opposite to them.
kate introduced them to each other but within the introduction, Ella was busy looking at him. it felt like she knew him.
"Why do you look familiar to me? even your name does? do I know you?" Ella rubbed her chin and furrowed her brows drifting herself into deep thoughts.
"I don't know. I have never seen you before". Mark said thoughtfully.
"you have been living alone with your aunt then how will you know any person". kate confirmed.
"I am pretty sure I know you. Arghh...I can't quite recall. I know you... I mean I knew you". Ella couldn't think up which made her angry on herself. "maybe I saw you before that?"
"Before what?" Mark asked feeling confused.
"When I was 3. that's when aunt Sophia found me and adopted me". Ella said. "I might be able to recognise you if you would address yourself more accurately".
"I suggest your brain needs sometimes". Mark said. "since you both are going to Philinex, how about come to my real estate?" he raised his brows in demand of an opinion.
"no thanks, Mark. we will come over some other day". kate had to deny the offer. now, what was important was to reach there as fast as possible. the time was ticking and things are not too far for a change.
"Please, just for a meal. it will help Ella". Mark now started to beg. it annoyed kate now. they barely know him. and he plans to take them to his house. not just this. he overheard their entire conversation. this made kate dislike him now when she recalled what happened a few minutes ago.
Ella pulled Kate to aside and started to whisper, "why are you denying?". kate was raged now. she started to feel that they were trying to slow her down. "Ella..what is wrong with you? don't you see, we are falling behind". she wailed.
"what are you exactly going to do there? do you have a single clue, how you are going to defeat him?" Ella whispered. suddenly kate felt blank. for a second she froze. "i...have no idea".
"you better think then". Ella said and went to Mark and said that they are ready to go.
Mark guided while Ella followed. when they realized kate did not follow they stopped and shouted her name and asked why wasn't she coming.
"you both go on. I will join slightly after sometimes". kate replied.
Ella and Mark walked slowly while kate sat facing towards the lake and began to think. Ella did make sense, she realized. when she was clear with herself she walked towards the marketplace and bought a horse from an ostler. she recalled the lessons her father gave about riding horses. he didn't want her to learn, martial art but he did want her to learn horse riding. she turned expert after racing in several races. the words of her father echoed in her brain..back steady and eyes focused.
she now missed her father more than ever. she can't wait to give him a big hug. but she convinced herself that it will not be..long. which worried her even more. what if he started to search for her and go shinex? she got the thought away and focused on racing the horse to catch up with them. everything started to move while she stayed steady and focused...
