Paul was driving into the lot as Mark pulled out. He signaled, and Paul stopped.
“Just got a weird phone call,” Mark said. “Annie. Her tone was higher pitched than normal, and she said I had to come home to take Julia to her karate lesson.”
“Julia doesn’t take karate.”
“Right. And, Annie said, besides, she was pregnant.”
Paul grinned. “Really? She said that. I doubt she’d say it . . .”
“No,” Mark said. “They wanted me to come home. Something’s up, and Annie couldn’t tell me.”
“I got a heads up that Adriano Menendez escaped the patrols and he’s headed this way. The Milwaukee police reported a security guard at the airport saw him—didn’t recognize him until he saw his photo on CNN. You know that Menendez is—”
