Chapter 19 The Campbell Inn stood on a small hill adjacent to the boardwalk and across the street from the Village Green. In front of the inn spread a gravel parking lot that functioned as the village’s central and free parking lot. The lot was packed. Duncan Byrne maneuvered his SUV through the aisles and lucked out. Someone pulled out, and Duncan took his spot. Crowds were cutting through the lot from the boardwalk to the inn or toward the carnival. On the boardwalk, the people went from shop to shop, entering the bait and tackle shop, buying candy at the fudge store, and standing in long lines at the hot dog and other food stands.
