Chapter 33 At two in the morning, Annie woke and realized two things. She was no longer in that God awful hospital, but lay in her own bed at the Driscoll’s, and her headache had finally disappeared. Except for a half moon peeking its way inside the room, the only light source was a collie-head night light plugged into a socket. Annie got out of bed and slipped on her robe. Disturbed, Lady stood up and shook herself, her tail wagging. “Shh.” Annie pointed her finger to her lips and whispered, “Go back to sleep, little girl. I’m just going onto the balcony for a minute.” Lady grunted, circled three times and lay down, but her head was still fixed on Annie. Annie stepped onto the balcony.
